It might be worth waiting until close to the start of each race as we need to select a horse that is unlikely to start the race as favourite.
The back and lay odds should tighten up closer to the start of each race. In the meantime though, I’ll use fictional lay odds for Blue Point (5/2) in the King’s Stand Stakes (15:40 on Tuesday), to illustrate how this offer should be done. I’ll update the table at the bottom of the post with some actual selections at the end of each day.
At the time of writing, laying our bet at Smarkets is likely to give us the smallest qualifying loss.

As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £19.02…
Place £20.00 on Blue Point @ 3.50 = Potential profit of £50.00
Lay £19.02 on Blue Point @ 3.70 = Potential liability of £51.35

So, we’ll make a nice profit of £14.63 if Blue Point finishes 2nd or 3rd to the SP Favourite and we stand to lose a maximum of £1.37 on any other outcome. Risking £1.37 to make a profit of £14.63 gives us effective odds of 11.68, which I’m sure you’ll agree, makes this a profitable offer in the long run.
