It’s the Welsh Grand National 2019 on Friday and The Pools are getting in on the action! Simply place a £20.00+ bet on the 14:50 at Chepstow and The Pools will give us a £5.00 free bet if the winner’s SP is 10/1 or less. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a potential profit of £3.70 and here’s how…
Key Terms:
- The minimum stake to qualify is £20.00.
- We must place our bet at odds of 2.00 (evens) or greater.
- Qualifying bets must be placed and settled on Friday 27th December 2019.
- Get a £5.00 free bet if the winner’s starting price (SP) is 10/1 or less.
Qualifying Bet:
If you’re unfamiliar with qualifying bets, please see my Qualifying Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how they should be done.
It’s entirely up to you which horse you place your qualifying bet on. Having looked at the odds available, we could place our qualifying bet on Elegant Escape.
At the time of writing, laying our bet at Betfair gives us the smallest qualifying loss.
Betfair are currently running a great sign up offer where you pay 0% commission up to £500 for the first 30 days…
If you already have a Betfair account, you can opt to pay just 2% commission by selecting the Basic package.
We can calculate our lay stakes using my matched betting calculator…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £20.10…
Place £20.00 on Elegant Escape @ 4.00 = Potential profit of £60.00
Lay £20.10 on Elegant Escape @ 4.00 = Potential liability of £60.30
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Bookie | Exchange | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|
Elegant Escape wins | +£60.00 | -£60.30 | £0.30 loss |
Elegant Escape doesn’t win | -£20.00 | +£19.69 | £0.31 loss |
So, regardless of the outcome, we’ll lose a maximum of £0.31 in qualifying for our potential £5.00 free bet.
Free Bet:
We’ll receive a £5.00 free bet if the winner’s SP is 10/1 or less. Free bets will be credited by 12:00 the day after settlement of our qualifying bet and will be valid for 7 days. Free bet stakes will not be included with any returns.
By using straightforward matched betting, we should be able to extract 80% cash from our £5.00 free bet, so £4.00. If we take into account our minimum qualifying loss of £0.30, this gives us a potential profit of £3.70 on this The Pools offer!
* Potters Corner won the race at SP odds of 8/1, resulting in a profit of £3.69 on this The Pools offer. *

Guest userPromotion was invite only via email.
Matt
1490Where did you see that Christopher?
It was listed on their promotions page and I can’t see anything in the terms to say it’s invite only.
Gaynor
Guest userPools didn’t give me free bet and live chat insisting it was an email only offer – not sure how to convince them it was a promo on their home page ??
Matt
1490The offer is still listed here Gaynor if you want to take screenshots for arguing your case…

Guest userThey said the same to me. Even denying the promotion was on the website. I’m going to complain until they credit it.
Gaynor
Guest userYes they said same to me – definitely going to email a complaint

Guest userThanks Matt
It was definitely on their home page promos – the Big Christmas bet and get they had one today on football too.
Thanks for the screenshot Matt- I’m going to complain via email and will include this

Guest userHaha now they’re claiming the link on their website was “from an email” and relying on a bogus term which doesn’t even say its invite only:
9.3 sharing promotional offers, bonus codes or bonuses received by you with others who were not the intended recipient and/or accessing promotional offers, bonus codes or bonuses received by you from others when you were not the intended recipient;
Gaynor
Guest userI got the same reply to my email – I’ve asked them for a copy of the terms and conditions of the offer that was on their web page – how can they suggest we used someone else’s link when the offer was that days Christmas Bet and Get ? If it was their mistake to put it on there they should say so and honour the bet.
