Backing a winning team?
-
Hi all, just wondering what the consensus is on this scenario: I backed and laid a footie game to get through a WR for a loss of about £2 (on a £200 bet). It was pretty obviously that the match was only going to end one way, just a question of how many goals the winners would score. In this situation, would you put a couple of quid on to win in the in-play back market at smarkets, say around 10 minutes to go (when they were 3-0 up) having already laid this result? I know the odds would only be 1.01 or something, but it would equal out the loss on the matched bet.

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

For you to get your £2 back, you would need to lay £200.
There was a game the other day (don’t remember the teams) where the score was 3-0 with a couple of minutes left, by the end of the game it was 3-4. In this case you would have just lost your £200.
Personally I would just take the £2 loss each time, otherwise you are just gambling.
+0cheers, I meant just back team A = win, not correct score but I take your point.
I just started thinking about this after realising I should have underlaid in the first place and wondered if there is anything to be done once the match looks likely to go one way or another+0I’m sure Ryan will tell you all about that game. Tranmere were 3-1 down going into injury time and won 4-3.
+03-1 down 90th minute…guess the score 😉
+0I’ve seen Carlisle lose 6-0 at Prenton Park so I wouldn’t like to say what was worse. I suppose we knew a bit earlier that we weren’t going to win.
+0deathstar, he was talking about backing team A to win as well, not correct score. At odds of 1.01 you would need to bet £200 on team A to win to get your £2 back.
+0I guess I wasn’t very clear when I read it back, yes I meant just backing team A to win, not correct score, and 1.01 odds are pretty useless.
I was just wondering if anyone tinkers about once they have actually matched their bets and then find the game is obviously going one way or another? I suppose the only way really is if you have underlaid and can then add a bit of cash to the lay side when its going badly on the pitch.
