Betfred inshop dispute

  • Yesterday betfred boosted cracksman to 5/2.

So i did what i usually do sat mornings go round my local betfreds and never had a problem before.

The last one i went to collect my winnings they said thats £300. I said err nooo it should be £350, he said then said it a few minutes too late and paid me out at 2/1.

The betslip clearly stated 5/2 and was accepted and placed at 10:55 (not sure when they removed the boost) surely if the price had changed they shouldnt have accepted my bet and notified me?

    Anyone help??

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Your slip is your contract. They need to get a grip and pay out.

Yeah when i queried it that they should have notified me of the change all he said was that ah well we were really busy so don’t have time to check all the odds….

I still made profit but that’s besides the point don’t want them robbing me of £50. I’m not sure if its something I should follow up on..

A tough one Ryan but this is how I see it.

If you dispute it further I think you will have a strong case and should get the extra £50 but it could come at a cost to you. E.G. that shop refuse or limit your bets or worse notify the local area so it scuppers you across all the Freds. Short term gain could be long term pain and all that.

When you went to collect did you take the money? If you have it makes things a lot harder. A couple of similar things in the past have happened where disputes have rose and this is what I did.

    1) Coral boosted Zlatan to score first between 12-1 on a Friday. Was shopping in the town centre and underlaid it for a chance of winning £30. Anyway he did score first but upon collecting the winnings the lady in the shop was trying to pay me out at the original price despite me writing price boost on the slip and getting them to check the odds the boost was. In this situation I said ok can I have the slip back. I then got home rang customer services with my bet slip number and they agreed that I was correct so ended up with them saying I could go in and collect which I did later in the day. Throughout this I was friendly with the worker who apologized and I said don’t worry about it and actually tipped her a fiver. Everything was fine going forward in that shop which was all good.

    2) One time in Paddy Power I did the extra place race across a few shops and got the winner at 6/1 when I had been going around putting 50 ews on at 5/1 across multiple shops. When I got to the last shop I was paid out @ 5/1 instead of 6/1. The person in there was someone I thought was a bit dodgy and he said it was only between 12-1 and I did the bet at 1:10. I said fair enough took the money and came home. I phoned Paddy Power up that afternoon who confirmed that that store is BOG between 12-1 but the others nearby were BOG all day. I said fair enough I will walk further up the road in future if it is not lunchtime. Since then I did hear the person got sacked for underpaying winning bets which is something that happened to me before with him.

Anyway Ryan back to your case if the shop has paid you out it may be worth just ringing up and asking them what time they pulled the boost down yesterday and that you were in this situation. If it turns out it was after you did the bet then you can take it further and I would guess the employee in question would get into a lot of trouble.

It’s your choice though but my tip from experience mate is you can always come back another time to collect from another cashier or ring up to double check something else.

Hope it works out for you anyway.

Cheers for the reply. I emailed them and they just got back to me:

I have managed to locate your bet, bet number xxxxxxxxx, and can see that the bet was placed at 10.55; the 5/2 push on Cracksman was cut at 10.45, making it 10 minutes late for the price written on the slip.

Fred’s pushes are only available for a limited time; I appreciate this is not the answer you were hoping for, but I can assure you that your bet has settled correctly on the price of 2/1.

I rarely bet in shops but I was just always under the impression if that they should

    A) accept the bet based on the odds on the slip or
    B) let you know the odds have changed

I don’t see how they can accept my bet at 5/2 if they had known the price had been changed 10minutes before hand!

Yes you are correct there Ryan. If you ask to take the odds it is the job of the cashier to look up the race and write them on for you whilst stating what they are. Or you can write them on yourself but the cashier should then check that the price is correct to what you have put down.

Also if you are doing an in shop acca they should tell you that prices have changed on the slip but 90% of the workers do not. If you complain further there is a chance you will get something out of it. To say the shop was busy is not really a proper excuse. If I was working then you betting £100 would mean I would be double checking it as it is a significant staked bet. I may let the odd regular with the 10p lucky 15 go on as it would not be a major risk to the company.

    What do you reckon?

As you may be aware prices can fluctuate and vary during the course of a market being available on events. Our EPOS (Electric Point of Sale) system generates these prices, and this is the most up to date reflection of prices available on a selection. All prices are offered as such, and any bet accepted at an incorrect price will be settled in accordance with the following terms:

    19. Early morning price, show price and starting price wagers.

    E. When an early morning price or show price is requested by the customer, then the price at which your wager will be settled is the price written and verified on the slip by the shop staff. If the price written on the betting slip is not verified by the shop staff, or if an error is made by the staff, your wager will be settled at the actual price at the time the bet was placed, whether that price is higher or lower than any price written upon the slip. It is the customers responsibility to ensure that they leave enough time before the race is ‘off’ for the cashier to check and verify the price(s) requested, any ‘late’ bets due to price requests will be ‘void’ win or lose.

Staff are always on hand to assist customers, and up to date prices can be requested over the counter at bet placement. In future to avoid any further discrepancies, I suggest you request any prices or price changes from staff to avoid disappointment.

Not read the thread in full. But givinfg that slip away abit of a blunder. Also did the cashier circle the 5/2?

Well they’ve stated their BS terms so infact staff error means the price is not valid basically.

Reading through it ryan I would say it’s the usual terms that protect themselves. I reckon if you carry on they may give you something like a free bet. It’s just annoying.

Betfred are a nightmare in my experience. I went to put a £100 on ribchester and cracksman in a betfred shop I’ve never visited before or the city in general. Got to the counter and he restricted me to £50 each when I asked why he said I’m clearly a “runner” for somebody else. When I stated no I’m not I just want to place a bet he wasn’t having any of it what a shambles eventhough I mentioned the price is 5/2 his theory wouldn’t even make sense. Just something to be wary of for anybody else on the off chance you get a staff member thinking they are a genius n don’t like the look of you
