Cheltenham reflections

  • No profit figures needed but where are people at looking back on the 4 days….. Hopefully richer and more importantly enjoyed it

    For me-
I pushed myself from being able to do the maths to being able to profit more on each way arbs
Loved watching mite bite head towards the tatts bar before winning the race, even if it didn’t profit
Had 2 great days. Ticked over day 3 where work was more important and Ticked backwards on day 4 where gambling couldn’t make up for work
Massively missed actually going to the festival

And am actually thinking to just target accas and bigger events rather than any offer which may lose accounts quicker. If I’ve got what I have now for Aintree, next cheltneham, euros/world cups etc money is easy

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Yes Cheltenham was relatively good for me albeit not the £000’s that others have talked about in the past.

I tried a different tactic this year for the first time and backed the whole field in one race (on which several bookies were paying an extra place) during the 4 days without bothering to put on any lays. The risk for a total stake of £252 if the wrong horses had won was relatively small, circa £21, and if the right horses won then the upside was around £50.

Arguably I was rather lucky and I came out with a modest profit.

I mention this only in the hope of understanding if others are in the habit of doing this and if so what guidance on this can they offer up ?

Well this was my 1st Cheltenham and to be honest I felt totally overwhelmed with all the different and varied offers, I placed about 7 bets per race all with varying bookies, usually a variety of Horses, some from the betting alchemist, some depending on the odds for laying and some I just had a punt on, I watched the pre-Cheltenham program on tv every morning and read everything I could… I feel exhausted! On 116 bets I placed I missed most of the triggers, turned my back a couple of times and missed the lay, so all in all I’m £7.50 down!!? And gubbed by Betway ? I think a different strategy is needed for next time. Any advice for future big meetings would be welcomed ?

Where did this post come from?! Kept saying it already existed when I tried to post it so replied in matchedems post….. then hours later it appears!

Misstaw, should be easier to hit the lay on big meetings as loads liquidity. You can get on a lot earlier and place bets when the markets are pretty still

Misstaw, as betman suggested, get bets on early as liquidity is good on the big meetings, so boxing off the main offers early takes the pressure off…which in turn provides time to find additional value elsewhere.

Secondly, dont overdo an offer…no good taking a ql loss on 7 horses in a race when only one can win/come 2nd etc…basically weigh up the value.

Thirdly, dont punt as much 😉

Thanks for your advice, I actually backed 3-4 different horses over 7 or 8 bookies each race… why did I give myself such a stressful time! I was frantically backing and laying all over the place scared of missing out on a single offer!
I thought betting beforehand would lead me to being gubbed? ( I’m sure that’s why betfair sb gubbed me). I had a more relaxed day today and made £145 on 4 races on bet365 4/1 offer! I’m up overall for my 1st 5 months of mb, but still have lots to learn, that’s why I appreciate your feed back very much
    Cheers
