No more casino!

  • About two months ago i blew £700 on roulette…a moment of complete madness chasing a loss.

Built it back since then thanks to this wonderful blog and forum, vowing never to play roulette again…which i have stuck to.

Tonight however, i got stung on slots. Could have been worse, was £250 down and somehow got a £190 win and had to leave it at a £60 loss.

Posting this purely to get it off my chest. Im not even a gambler in the sense that roulette and slots do not appeal to me at all, but all rationality about money goes out the window when im down and want to get even playing them.

Match betting is far too much of a profitable opportunity to waste so so am determined to avoid all slots/casino, even risk free offers (which is the only way i end up playing these damn games in the first place!).

Anyone else experienced this? If anything, i think it was good to lose now, learn from it and know how bad these games really are.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Well I hope you have stopped, sounds like you had a bit of a relapse there. House always wins just remember that and you dont need casino when you could be making that £700 a month easily on here.

Good luck (but not at the casino)

Thanks for sharing Johnbo – personally I’ve never had that much luck on slots. I ignore all the free spins offers now as I feel it’s not worth my time and the whole process bores me s***less. All that clicking; amounts going up, down then up and down again. Even using the autospin function it’s still too boring. God help anyone who is addicted to that crap.

Agreed rdy, they are very boring. I made £70 out of using them though, so I usually play my free spins – I find muting the tab, playing my own music and catching up on my reading helps pass the time!

Johnbo, I’ve been match betting 6 months and fell into a trap of starting to play casino with my own money – I bet £1k on a hand at one point. I was getting addicted.

The offers tempt you in but being someone who hadn’t gambled before, I couldn’t handle even a small loss and started chasing losses and putting larger amounts on without thinking. The offers are designed to tempt you in.

The other reason was that being a MB beginner, I wasn’t making much headway and saw what others were making on slots (£100+ wins) and decided to give it a go. However, unless you’re disciplined, you play one more spin etc…

I’ve now given up all casino offers and just focus on the matched betting opportunities. Now I’ve learnt what to do, I made over £1k on a single set of accounts this month, managed my risk/exposure and had peace of mind.

I’ve been here too. I’m a gambler at heart and I am struggling with matched betting as there is no risk, but I’m managing to get a grip and do it. However – made the mistake of spending some of my money on the slots and quickly became addicted. Fortunately I had a couple of big wins (but that doesnt help really cos you think it’s possible to do it again). Now I have barred myself from the casino section on bet365 and sky – not all the bookies separate them from sports. I don’t read any casino offers at all. Sometimes I get free spins thrown at me and I can just about do them quickly and leave.
You’ve done well – am just posting this in case other newbies are around and being drawn into casino – it’s slippery.
Oh and blackjack – I know the strategy by heart and never managed to win much at that.

How can anyone get addicted to slots??

Sky gave me £5 free spins once. I did something wrong and I lost £5. Never again!

Although you can go on live casino and flirt with the girlies – don’t put any bets on though

Slot addiction…well…I spend a lot of time studying horse racing /stats/ trends/form/hcps etc etc. If I go near slots I go into some sort of brainless fugue state and sit there clicking the start button and watching the reels go round like a total moron. It’s maybe the fact that there is no thought required, unlike if I’m watching a horse race, so it’s kind of relaxing, almost hypnotic – until you realise how much it’s costing.

And of course as the money goes down the temptation is to keep going cos its got to come up with a win at some point…..

Still smarting from my first gubbing – it occurred to me today that all this gubbing stuff might be a ploy to move people into the casino/games where they are more likely to lose?

Supert, the temptation to play after making big profits from mb is certainly something i can relate to (mindset being play say £20 and potentially get a big win…)

I do still play offers but have set rules-

1- never play without free spins or a bonus offer, which i can stick to well as slots dont really appeal to me.

2- with a bonus, dont do small spins of say 25p as this leads to temptation of playing on with own money to small stakes once bonus has gone, which is what can trigger those moments when you play on against all logic!

Instead, do £1 spins with say £10 bonus, wager it and be done with it. Knowing exactly how many spins to play helps you stick to not using your own funds, you either lose the bonus and close the game or get a decent win and try to wager it through.

playing on £1 spins helps me close the game when the bonus is over as i know how quickly you can lose with £1 spins- it prevents me from thinking “just a few spins to see what happens…”

Before I discovered matched betting, I too was getting addicted to the roulette table.

Nothing substantial money wise being put down & I ended up being £15 down when I discovered this website. Only been match betting for a few weeks & it’s brill!

I only do the free spins & leave it in my account (if I win anything)

Slots are addictive, I can see why people get sucked into them.

Whenever I’ve had free spins to use on the slots or taken up a “stake £10 get a £10 FB” offer I’ve found myself getting really into them. I only ever do 20p a line but if you activate a bonus round or something the money soon starts rolling in, the screen lights up, your balance increases and you hear the carefully chosen sounds which activate all the reward sensors in your brain.

The real life slots in Vegas are incredibly addictive, people will sit at them for hours and hours. There is always the “one more spin” temptation as it seems so easy to win on them but obviously in the long run you can’t make money of these. Even knowing that it’s hard not to enjoy them and hope for that winning buzz.

I found the ‘playing for fun’ option on the SkyBet website helped me from getting sucked in. Just bet willy nilly & at your hearts content.

Some of the casino offers are ridiculous and make 99.9999% sure you can’t win anything.

I think it’s BetVictor that say you have to wager this bonus FIFTY times and “anyone perceived to be adopting a low risk strategy to clear the bonus will have it removed including betting on red and black”.

    Basically not letting you win.
