Placing bets the night before…..

  • When you place a bet the night before is the bookie going to honour the same odds the following day. Say I bet on a horse at odds of 12.0 tonight, but it goes down to 4.0 tomorrow, will they still pay out the 12.0 odds if it wins?

    I’m specifically talking about Bet365

    yes of course they would.

if you back a horse at 11/1 and it goes off 3/1. You might find yourself quickly gubbed however.

If you back a horse the day before, it is still classed as ante-post bet, and a lot of people do not realise that they will lose their stake if a horse is withdrawn and does not run. A return of stake is only given if the horse is withdrawn on the day of the race and the bet is made on the day of the race. An exception is where the bookmaker usually on big races will quote a horse at a price and also say 4/1 with a run i.e. if a horse has won a trial for an earlier race and is entered a few months ahead for perhaps the Derby.
Be careful placing bets the night before as you may lose your stake. Bet on the day of the race, if you must, bet after midnight to get your stake returned in event of the horse not running.

navillus ,what you have stated is not correct.
You will get your money back if the bet is placed after the final declaration stage, which is normally 24hrs before the start of the scheduled race.
So if you placed a bet the night before, you would almost certainly get your money back,
navillus please dont post incorrect rubbish without checking your facts first as its not fair to mislead people.

With paddy power in November I always placed my bets the night before on their money back second offer.

This is because I didn’t match bet them and I didn’t have to wait for the exchange to wake up, it was before that time for me.

Never had problems with non runners.

My paddy value statement says that I made €1000 in bog. I think if you can, then it’s always worth the bog bonus to place the night before.

Great info everyone. Thank you. I notice a horse I backed at odds of 7 last night is now about 5.5 to lay on Betfair

Also another point to make on this. When betting the night before there is more of a chance of a reduction in odds due to a rule 4. This does on occasions stand in your favour when match betting because on many occasions now I’ve had bookies who don’t apply the reductions when outsiders are pulled out of the race when on the exchange they do, resulting in more profits if your horse happens to win.
