Preparation for Cheltenham

  • Can you believe it but Cheltenham is only just over 6 weeks away.

I was pretty new to matched betting this time last year and felt that I missed out a fair bit as I wasn’t properly prepared. I still came out with a few hundred quids worth of profit, which wasn’t bad for a starter but could have been more.

Given what I learned from last year my advice to newbies would be:

    – Sign up to as many bookies as you can in advance
    – Try out some of the horse racing offers on a weekend before Cheltenham so you understand how to play them
    – Make sure you’ve got a decent float ready in your exchange
    – Try to get organised, and create a system to what you’re doing. There’s so much going on that it will be a hectic few days so having a plan of attack will really help you
    – Try and relax and enjoy it!

Which offers were particularly lucrative for you last year? How much did you profit? What was your biggest mistake?

I’m keen to make as much as possible this year so any tips would be welcome!

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

This was probably the nudge I needed to get through some more signup

Are 12Bet, 138.com TLC & Fun88 that bad? I know they had a bad Cheltenham press but know nothing about them really, other than 138 get their name about a bit

Rejuvenated betvictor, although noticed they ran a credit check already so may not last given seems they did before too. Makes a mockery of all the ID I had to provide to withdraw if they’d run a credit check anyway! Proof they use money laundering to delay/deter

Looks like I failed to rejuvenate sky as blocked on opening

Question for people re new accounts. These are the options what is best

    1) Sign up early Feb then leave accounts til Cheltenham (i.e. not a new user then)

    2) Sign up the day before Cheltenham (i.e. not muggy as just spotting their offers)

    3) Sign up now and bet all the way to Cheltenham (dont agree with this one)

    (1) but place a few muggy bets between now and the festival – not on races or games with offers, just some big games and a few Sat races…

Is it unlikely that there’ll be better sign up offers for Cheltenham then? I seem to remember a few bookies had better than normal signups for the Euros. Does anyone remember what they were like last year?

Tony just wondering why you think to do (1) over (2) , just I see a risk that some bookies might have a pre Cheltenham cull a week or so before and just by winning the first few bets u could fall?

Neilogism…i think the same that they will be slightly better than usual. Probably nothing major tho. Expect plenty of offers that say 33/1 on an even money shot (very very small print max bet £1)

Someone earlier mentioned that “cash flow” was a major problem with all the money tied in the exchange or “in transit” till 4pm next day (at best) – This obviously inhibits you from betting on day 2 etc.

One theory I have is Ladbrokes exchange. Am I correct in assuming this is run by Betdaq? If so, is there any reason why you cant withdraw cash in the local Lads shop at 6pm then physically deposit back to your current account? Thus making cash funds available next morning?

@matchedem I think if you do (2) then you will certainly lose the account quickly after (maybe even during) Cheltenham, whereas with (1) you might keep it longer than the festival. As you know, the festival is not the only time that a nice healthy account can be useful – you will want to keep it for the National and the jackpot chance that provides with extra places…

To those asking about better SUB towards the festival, there were some last year – Hills had code “RP100” which was basically a Bet £100 Get £100 affair (might still work now tbh) and I am sure that I remember other marginally improved SUBs. To be honest though, the real long term profit is not going to be affected hugely by a bookie giving you a £50 SUB instead of a £25 one.

Great answer Tony, completely changed my opinion which I’m sure u have realized is diifcult to do! Might leave it a few weeks and then start setting up the main ones…gets the job of setting them up out of the way then too

What are the best signups around the Cheltenham period? I might delay signing up to bookies if they offer good signups?

There’s the betonbrazil one – altior to win the arkle, normal odds plus 33/1. £1 max stake though. Much better than their normal signup offer.

Quick question for all you experienced matched betting folk. Out of the 4 days of the festival are there any particular days which are traditionally better than the others, purely for matched betting purposes? I assume the first day as the bookies go all out to sucker you in but other than that I have no idea.

Reason being i’m planning to take a couple of afternoons off work but not sure what ones to go for.

    hi guys,

    – what kinda offers are thrown out there?? MB2nd, extra places, etc….?
    – do ALL bookmakers do offers (gubbed from a few of the bigger ones now)???
    – I plan on working on this fulltime… so also in-shop offers any good??
    – Personally, going to use the accounts I have left and then multi account post-Cheltenham
    – I take it a massive bankroll is needed?? 10k+
    – any other things I need to be aware of???

    Thanks in advance, Billy.

@Burger Me: Guess you missed my reply in New Offers. That’s not a ‘good’ sign-up offer for Bets On Brazil. You can do 50/1 right now for Liverpool v Leicester at £1 at the moment (see https://www.oddschecker.com/). They do them every week or two..

@jameslegg Think I posted the altior offer before your reply – I did see it though! Anyway, read your post earlier and got on the Liverpool one, cheers. 🙂
