The Cheltenham Festival 2020 gets underway on Tuesday and you don’t want to miss this Bet UK Money Back Special! Simply place a bet on the 15:30 each day and if it loses, Bet UK will refund our stake as a free bet, up to a maximum of £10.00. Translated into matched betting terms, this gives us a guaranteed profit of £24.00 and here’s how…
Key Terms:
- Minimum stake of £10.00.
- Applies to our first bet on the 15:30 at Cheltenham each day.
- Promotion can be claimed once per day for a maximum of 4 x £10.00 free bets.
- Qualifying bets must be placed within 24 hours of the scheduled start time of each respective race.
- Bets placed before 15:00 on Monday 9th March 2020 will not qualify.
- If our bet loses, Bet UK will refund our stake as a free bet, up to a maximum of £10.00.
Qualifying Bets:
This offer is available on the 15:30 each day as follows…
Race | Time | Date |
---|---|---|
Champion Hurdle | 15:30 | Tuesday 10th March 2020 |
Champion Chase | 15:30 | Wednesday 11th March 2020 |
Stayers’ Hurdle | 15:30 | Thursday 12th March 2020 |
Gold Cup | 15:30 | Friday 13th March 2020 |
Losing stakes are refunded as a free bet, so we can treat this as a risk-free offer.
We’ll need to select horses with long odds in order to maximise our profits.
We can’t place our first bet on the Champion Hurdle until after 15:30 on Monday 9th March 2020. In the meantime, I’ll use fictional lay odds for Supasundae to illustrate how this offer should be done each day. I’ll update the table at the bottom of the post with some actual selections after each race.
At the time of writing, laying our bet at Betfair is likely to give us the biggest guaranteed profit.
Betfair are currently offering new customers 0% commission up to £500 for the first 30 days.
If you’re an existing Betfair customer, you can opt in to pay just 2% commission by selecting their Basic reward plan.
For more information about My Betfair Rewards and how to opt in, please see my Betfair 2% Commission page.
We can work out our lay stake by using the ‘Risk-Free Bet’ setting on my matched betting calculator. We can enter £8.00 as our ‘Cashback’ figure as this is the amount we can expect to extract (80%) from our £10.00 free bet refund, should our horse lose…
As you can see, the calculator tells us that our lay stake should be £8.17…
Place £10.00 on Supasundae @ 11.00 = Potential profit of £100.00
Lay £8.17 on Supasundae @ 12.50 = Potential liability of £93.95
Outcomes:
Let’s have a look at our potential profit/loss for the possible outcomes…
Outcome | Bookie | Exchange | Extracted | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|---|
Supasundae wins | +£100.00 | -£93.95 | £6.05 profit | |
Supasundae doesn’t win | -£10.00 | +£8.00 | +£8.00 | £6.00 profit |
So, with some good odds, we should make a guaranteed profit of around £6.00 on each race. With 4 races selected across the 4 days, this gives us an overall guaranteed profit of £24.00 on this Bet UK offer!
Free bets will be valid on any sport for 3 days and free bet stakes are not included in any returns.
If you’re unsure how to extract £8.00 cash (80%) from a £10.00 free bet, check out my Free Bet Strategy page for a walk-through guide on how it should be done.
I’ll update the following table with some actual selections after each race…
Race | Selection | Back Odds | Lay Odds | Profit |
---|---|---|---|---|
15:30 Tuesday | Cilaos Emery | 8.00 | 9.20 | £5.68 |
15:30 Wednesday | Politologue | 8.00 | 9.00 | £5.84 |
15:30 Thursday | Emitom | 11.00 | 13.50 | £5.41 |
15:30 Friday | Kemboy | 9.00 | 9.80 | £6.21 |

Guest userSo the qualifying bet is calculated as a risk-free bet on the calculator? Not as a qualifying bet? Then the free bet will be calculated as a free bet on calculator? I’m confused. Thanks.
Matt
1490That’s correct Kirsty.
We use the ‘Risk-Free Bet’ setting for our initial bet which takes our potential refund into account.
If our horse wins, we’ve completed the offer and made our profit at the bookmaker.
If our horse doesn’t win, we’ve lost a couple of quid with a £10.00 free bet to come. We can then extract £8.00 cash from the free bet using the ‘Free Bet’ setting on the calculator.

Guest userI think the site has crashed.
Matt
1490Seems okay now?
Nick
Guest userMust have just been me… couldn’t get on 15 mins before the event. Will try again tomorrow.
Patrick V
Guest userIt was down for everyone before the race.

3Goes down this site straight after the 15:30 race. Hope they pay out fast as I won with them and I didn’t want that.
Nick
Guest userYeah me too. Site is very slow on the run up to the event.
Jo
Guest userDid anyone else have a problem with the winning horse payout? I placed the £10 bet at odds of 12, yet I only won £76? So took a loss on the match bet.
Alex
Guest userJo
Yes the reduced payout was due to a horse not running in the race. The odds of all the horses still running are reduced by a certain factor. All bookies will do this.
Wingman
Guest userThe exchange payout should have been reduced too, assuming you placed your back and lay bets at the same time?
Jo
Guest userThanks, I layed it later at odds of 9.6 on Smarkets. Think I’ll just use today’s offer as a bet and only match it if it loses.
Matt
1490It’s always a risky strategy waiting to place your lay bets Jo as the odds can drift.

Guest userAbsolutely shockingly poor odds from this bookie throughout the festival. Not just for the 1530 races but indeed all of them. Up to 5 pts difference lower per horse compared to other bookies.
