2nd to SP Favourite Bets
-
I placed one of the Befred 2nd place bets yesterday as follows:
Betfred – Back a horse in any race at Newcastle today, and should it finish 2nd to the SP Favourite, Betfred will refund your stake as a free bet, up to £10.00 (5+ runners required).
Excuse my ignorance but do I need to wait until nearer the time to see who the favourite is or is it just the horse with the poorest odds?
I placed this bet yesterday and my horse came second but haven’t received anything. Is this because it perhaps came second however was the SP favourite?
Sorry if this is a daft question!

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Which race was it?
The SP favourite. Is the horse that is favourite (shortest odds) at the off.

take a look at the above link, has yesterdays results, the 18:15 and 20:15 were the only 2 races that favourites won, so if your horse came 2nd in either of those races you will get a free bet – just noticed the 18:15 had just 3 runners so would not qualify as 5 runners minimum
+0I think i just realised I bet on a different horse than I thought I did, ha!!
however, is it best to place the bet closer to the time to avoid betting on the favourite, ie bet a horse who appears 2nd or 3rd according to the odds.
+0I am not a fan of second to sp fav. Need a short fav and clear 2nd fav. Otherwise it’s too hard to hit.
Of course if you’re getting on for freee then no harm, but otherwise I wouldn’t be taking a QL on this offer unless the race is ideal.
Look at the odds of a straight forecast to see how unlikely it is to get 1-2 in order.
And yeah, that thing where the fav can switch between you placing your bet and sp is annoying as well.
+0Oh and if it is an ideal race then the QL may be quite high. But look at placing each way bet to bring down the QL as often the ideal race is kind of bad ew value.
+0Thanks for that!
+0I reckon 2nd to SP favourite will come in to its own at the Cheltenham festival. Ok, the fields will be big, but with the likes of Buveur D`air, Apples Jade, Samco, Altior, etc there will be plenty of chances to get on with Toals, Bruce, and others coming to the party.
