A Newbie's Headaches!

  • Hi all, I’m a MB wannabe, been reading through the forum recently and really like what I’ve seen from you lot, seem like a likeable bunch that knows their carrots… Can you please answer these short questions for me:

    1. Except the Newbies and Strategy topics on the blog, where else should I learn the basics (and if there are topics suitable for that on the forum – what are their names), how did you learn match betting yourself?

    2. I have a bank of £1000 is that enough in your opinion, how much did you start your career with?

    3. I have done the following offers myself before knowing about MatchedBetting: PaddyPower, Betfair, Will Hill, Coral, BetFred, Ladbrokes, 365… are the smaller bookies like SuperLenny for example reliable?

    4. What’s your bankroll management – I mean everytime you deposit so you can take advantage of an offer – do you withdraw afterwards? How much can I expect to make after completing all other bookie offers?

    5. How big is the active brotherhood on here?

Cheers chaps, sorry for these dumbs questions I promise to be an active part of this forum soon – wish you a profitable month!

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

    I can help with 2 and 3:

    2. My bankroll is around £1000 too, being a student that’s my overdraft and you can still make good money.
    3. Most of the smaller ones are fine, avoid SuperLenny they are sh*te, did their sign up the other day and their sports book isn’t even running so took my money and ran. Be careful with the ones with big rollover requirements too if your bankroll is £1000 because if something goes wrong you won’t have enough money to sort it out. Read through the newbies section where there is a lot of help and try and get on the offers you think are worthwhile on the New Offers section ?

    Hi Tony.

    Welcome to the club.

    1. You can learn a lot by reading all of the threads on the forum as well as the strategy guides. I remember when I first started, I spent a good hour or two just reading through everything and doing some of the sign up offers. I then reconciled all my money and worked out profit to make sure I was doing it right. Slow and patient.

    2. £1000 is definitely enough to start with, I believe I had about £500 in my exchange at the start plus the £25’s here and there for the bookies bets. Ideally you’ll lose the majority of your bets so the exchange fills up over time.

    3. Not so sure about reliability of the likes of superlenny but you should definitely do 888sports, Tote, Unibet and betstars. The smaller bookies can be left for rainy days when there isn’t a lot of sport going on. Thats how I play them anyway.

    4. I have a simple deposit and withdrawal spreadsheet whereby I subtract my deposits from my withdrawals to work out profit. I then withdraw everything to reconcile and move profit to savings accounts. A lot of people will tell you that withdrawing money leads to restrictions and gubbings but I have seen no real evidence of this. As for profits, everyone has their own level of offers they can and are willing to do so there isnt really an answer to that question. I go for £700 per month but exceed that but quite a bit. You should set expectations lower for the early days of your career though.

    5. The activeness of the brotherhood depends on the time of the year and how many offers are on.

    Happy trails.

I would just jump in Tony.

You need to feel it out yourself which offers you can do, how much time and effort you want to put in.

I would follow the main Blog. Each day Matt goes through the offers step by step. This covers all the main offers and you will profit about £300 per month just following those basic reload offers.

Continue to do sign ups to boost your monthly profit.

You will also find that Matt doesn’t blog a lot of the horse offers like Bet365 4/1+ or money back 2nd offers. So get on horse offers too to boost your profit even more.

Follow the “New Offers” section of the forum as well. You will see a lot of offers and price boosts posted here that Matt doesn’t always blog either and will boost profit even more.

Should be able to make £500 per month plus per month if you put in the time.

Your bank roll is fine to start with – but try and build it up even more which will allow you to do more offers simultaneously.

Bankroll management – its up to your own preference. Leave it in the bookie or withdraw it. It makes no difference in my opinion. Personally I leave a little in the decent bookies to let me do their reload offers – but only a little, I withdraw anything above £100 or something like that depending.

The small bookies are reliable enough. Some bookies are funny about offers switching terms, pulling offers etc. Just be careful. There have been a couple of nasty stories from some bookies that I have read here – but that’s been over a year and by and large most ppl haven’t had much trouble with any of the bookies.

Wow, cheers for the great replies lads didn’t expect that so fast haha…

Before I found this blog some days ago I didn’t know smarkets exists – are they reliable as I see they take 2% instead of BetFair’s 5% which makes some difference, no?

I will be doing some sign up offers in sites which I haven’t touched yet so I believe my bank will rise up to something like £1300… As for the time and effort part, that’s where my biggest strength is – I have lots of time on my hands, 2-3 hours a day would certainly not be a problem! My worries are that I know little about horses and that seems to be where the money are at – I’ve seen a few races but overall my knowledge is poor… EW – you pay double your stake and if your horse finishes 2nd you get your money back? Pretty sure that’s wrong but that’s what I remember haha.

Also from your experience – do you reckon bookies like bet365 who offer bonuses with rollovers like 3x, 5x, 8x… are realistic and should be approached after all the free bet offers are completed?
