Another Noob To say Hi

  • Hi guys,

    Another Noob thread,

Found an article on MSE a number of weeks ago about matched betting that peaked my interest.

I read a little bit, and book marked the page, thinking sounds to good to be true. Kept coming back to it and reading the article though.

I did a bit of Google’ing and found this blog, and that led me to reading the guides, and to the point of this morning taking the plunge.

Opened an account with Coral and Smarkets.

Got my initial order placed and also my bonus free bets done, now just waiting for the conclusion.

Easy enough to actually place the bets, just a bit time consuming knowing what to do as it’s something new, but I’m sure that will get quicker with time. Looking forward to seeing how today pans out now.

I would love to be able to pull in around £200-£400 a month from it. That would be a dream.

    My first bets are

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

    So first results in.

Coral bet Icefall to win the 5:05 Ripon = -£5

    Smarkets lay Icefall = £4.95

So net loss on that is 5p :p

Next up is the Montpellier game at 7pm.

Just an update on day 2.

My Montpellier lay bet last night bagged me £14.92 which was lovely. Not sure if I could have extracted more from it, but happy none the less and the cherry well and truely popped.

I’ve had my fill for day.

Opened a betsafe account with £10 deposit, and received my £20 free bet.

This is how I broke it down, and how it finished.

My £10 qualifying stake was placed on the Bournemouth v Utd game on the Over/Under Market.

At the time I went for the over 2.5 goals, however on the lay side I messed up and overlayed by mistake.

The free bet was placed on the same game, but this time a Bournemouth win. The image below is how the figures panned out.

As we now know Utd won, and the lay side of the bet returned my money.

Interestingly for me anyway, my qualifying bet actually won with the bookie, so from my £10 stake, I made £11.77. Meaning my total for today was £13.66.

Bet 1 win with bookie https://imgur.com/a/NF6Y6 (I withdrew my initial stake and winnings)

Bet 2 win with Smarkets https://imgur.com/a/R259i

I’m going to carry on with the small new account offers for now until my stake has built up, and then I can smash the higher value ones.

Opinions so far is I’m loving it 🙂

Welcome, and glad to see you’re enjoying it! 🙂

I’ve been matched betting since March. It’s been excellent, and this blog and forum is a fantastic place to find offers and discuss tactics etc with others!

    welcome christof21,
Looks like you’ve got the hang of it pretty well. Only thing I would suggest is to look for slightly better odds match-ups for your free bets and slightly longer odds, but I know this can be an issue when you are just starting out and your float is low. (have a play with the calculator and see the difference between back 5 lay 5.6 and back 7 lay 7.6)
Also horses are quite tricky until you really get some experience as lots of things can go wrong and the odds move very quickly. But you seemed happy to go for it so I guess you’ll be ok.
Other than that, keep to big sporting events to stay under the radar.
    Good luck

    thanks for replying guys 🙂

I’m going to stay to the decent football match ups now the season has started. Getting on the radar was something I thought about at the start of things. Need to stay in the game.

I could have loaded up more into the exchange account to start with, but wanted to walk before running and I’m still having to use my own cash to load up new accounts at the moment. Sticking to the lower value qualifying bets to start with and build from there.

    @Sunny
has it been easy enough keeping your accou ts open?

When’s best to place the bets?

For example I’m looking at my 3rd day now, and looking at the Chelsea West Ham game.

I’ve opened up with Paddy Power and deposited £10 to place on a qualifying bet.

I’m looking at the under 2.5 goals which is priced at 2 @ PP and 2.14 @ Smarkets as of 08:41 today, that’s a 76p loss for the qualifying bet.

Think I may have messed up today’s bet.

I placed my qualifying bet eventually on a Chelsea win which was odds of

    1.61 Paddypower back
    1.64 Smarkets Lay Chelsea win

This unlocked my £30 of free bets in 3 x £10 blocks.

However it’s not until after I placed the free bets that I realised I had effectively hedged the qualifying bet.

I backed and layed a West Ham win.

Just a little worried that Paddey will see this as a breach of the T&C’s

So the end result was nothing to worry about at all 🙂

My qualifying bet with PP for Chelsea to wine bagged me a whopping £6.16 :p

My free bets used on a West Ham win obviously didn’t come in, however the lay bet placed with smarkets returned £16.28 after commissions.

As a nice little bonus, I had a £10 free Smarkets bet on my account, so didn’t lose anything on the qualifying lay bet, so my full return for last night was £22.44 🙂

My 3 day net profit on Smarkets is now at £38.06

My net profit on the qualifying bets is now at £12.93 (including the very first £5 stake at Coral losing)

To total running profit for 3 days is at £50.99 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Happy days!

Still taking a while to go through the new account offers, and the initial top ups required.

My aim is still to try and do 1 new account a day, and I’m looking at the Man City game tonight as the next one…..now to choose my next new account 🙂

it may be too early to say if you backing both outcomes is nothing to worry about! Try and make sure you don’t do that again, I wouldn’t think bookies take too kindly to guaranteeing yourself a profit. The best markets are usually correct score or HT/FT for a freebie and you can almost always choose something that compliments your first bet, ie Chelsea to win as a qualifier and then Chelsea win 2-1 (or whatevs).

It may or may not be better to wait to sign up to bookies instead of doing 1 a day. In my opinion I think it looks rather dodgy signing up for the sake of it and betting on some old rubbish just to get the freebie, and also you may find some bookies will have a special offer on a team they sponsor and will do enhanced odds on the day if they have a big game on. For example, Betsafe were doing an offer last season for man city because they had just started sponsoring them. have a look through Matts blog as I think he’s started blogging sign ups when they are worthwhile on a specific event.

Lastly, the Ebor festival (horse racing) starts tomorrow (weds) so if you don’t mind the gee-gees some bookies will offer you enhanced odds for sign-ups too.
