Bank account suspended friends accout

  • Having a nightmare week, a friends bank account got suspended for suspected fraud – he had an automated message and instead of confirming a couple of transactions were recognisable he hit the wrong number and said not recognisable!
I called them with him last night and gave all detail and said that transactions were correct and the operator said perfect no problem as soon as the call ends the card will again be active.

Went to use it today and it was declined so we called them back and they said due to the nature of the case he has to go into branch to show photo ID.

Is this normal as I am getting rather twitchy – around 500 has gone in and out of there in 3 months as I always withdraw though PayPal or leave in the accounts so there has not been a huge amount of transactions.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Your friend’s bank account yet you called them? Oh that’s ok then.

Helpful – yes but he was with me so I could not get caught out and all security questions answerd with no issue, he was too nervous to talk to them so I did not have much choice?

What I am asking is will this be a straight forward he goes in with ID and explains the transactions were to gambling sites or do you think there will be other repercussions?

    Thanks

    Why is it suspected fraud?.
They won’t care if you use the account for legal gambling.
A guy on here called Kieran had a similar problem.

Sleepless some banks these days seem to suspend accouts needlessly, we are both just twitchy as he does not understand matched betting or the online bank accout etc I set up and the way I move the money about so got to brief him before he goes instore, I will go with him but obviously keep my mouth shut.

He doesn’t need to understand matched betting. Go into bank comfirm his id and transactions and job done.

    So basically it is fraud……

If your mate struggles to understand what the transactions are for or how “his” account is setup then more alarm bells might be raised.

Oh dear, worst nightmare scenario! I’m always surprised people have friends them would let them do stuff like that. Just yeah, be careful your mate doesn’t go in there seeming like something weird is going on. It’s not a particularly hard thing to do though, just saying its for betting. Matched betting doesn’t have to come into the equation at all..

Wouldn’t be NatWest by any chance would it, I had the same issue back in the summer? I opened a few new bookie accounts and I have one separate NatWest account I use to make/receive payments – because I’d used it more than usual to make deposits and top ups they froze it. Had to go into branch but they would not release it from there – fortunately they let me use a room there to phone their fraud number because I was waiting to get through for over 40 minutes. Answered a few security questions, they asked me to confirm a couple of the last payments I’d made – all clear and away.

I am waiting for it to happen again though – every time I use the card to top up or open an account I’m expecting it to go again.

Yep NatWest we did the call bit but they now require photo ID to be produced in branch.

But do you get Clubcard points Sleepless- my daughter wants to go to Whipsnade Zoo next month, it’s trade Clubcard points or a second mortgage? 🙂

Joking aside there won’t be much in there after tonight, weekend has been decent but I now have some decent balances in several bookie accounts but the grand total of just over £37 in my BF account – having read nate88’s post I’m dreading making the transfer.
