@ Sunny, it’s very rare that rule 4’s go against you in matchbetting. That betfred thing the other day was just bad form on their part. Take a look on they’re twitter page of the backlash they received in result of it. It should userly just balance out from bookie to exchange but there are a lot of instances where you will infact makes gains from rule 4’s when matchbetting. Horses are a must if you are serious about matchbetting in my opinion. I find the football offers a drop in the ocean these days.

Cheers Sy, maybe I should start betting on horses then. Any particular tips, like should I bet well in advance of a horse race starting, or bet a few minutes before it starts, or anything like that?

Sunny, i’m sure people have different opinions on this but from my own experiences I like to get matches from the night before 12pm and onwards using oddsmonkeys racing matcher… You have more of a chance of hitting best odds this way although some could argue that it gets you noticed more from the bookies but i’m sure there are plenty of instances where mug punters would need to get their bets on beforehand as most people have to work etc.
You will only be able to match a few the night before mind and do the rest on the day moving up to the races. I aim for as low odds as possible to give myself the best chance and personally don’t settle for anything less than like for like on odds i.e 4/4, 3.5/3.5 etc. This keeps qualifying losses at a minimum. You can marginally break this rule if the race has a handful of runners as it would still be viable.
You will also experience quite a few rule 4’s doing night before but as i said it can on occasions work in your favour if outsiders withdraw and the bookie does not apply rule 4 and the exchange will still reduce such odds on your lay bet. On rare occasions you may hit a first past the post where you both win on the bookie and exchange. I’ve had a couple so far over last month or so and plenty of best odds enhancements which can on occasions be quite lucritive with £100+ profits.

Tonyr, It all depends really. Occasionally as you say there is no such luck but using oddsmonkey racing matcher helps checks to be done broadly and quickly. I flag matches that are getting close and periodically check for movements in the market. Userly betfair reacts first and then smarkets. Its about being there at the right time really as sometimes the opportunity windows can be small. There are often experienced people on this forum who flag them when it comes to cheltenham etc but obviously won’t post such things on standard racing day.
I’m by no means an expert on the subject but just what i’ve learned over time. I always try and leave as least to match before the races as possible so it isnt bedlam become race time and to optimize those best odds. A lot of matches can be done early morning I would say. I look at it like filling in appointments for a diary your just chipping away at it bit by bit.
