Cheltenham fatalities.

  • Personally I had no idea racehorses were as much at risk as we saw at Cheltenham last week, I’ve never had any interest in racing till I did matched betting. I was sickened however and I’m really pleased matched betting is damaging to both the gambling industry and racing. I’d personally prefer it if the jockeys or owners broke their legs and were shot.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

While the death of the horses was sad your point is daft and just plain ignorant here.

Really a 1st world problem you’re moaning about here. Look at the world and the amount of people in poverty. Those horses are better kept and looked after than a huge percentage of the world’s people. Those horses are treated like royalty.

Unfortunately shit happens, a horse could just as easily broke a leg jumping a ditch in the wild and wouldn’t have a vet to kindly put it out of it’s misery.

The comparative argument can be used anywhere. Yes , its a silly rant but very applicable to our activities on here, more so than the third world and a lot of other guys like me will be new to this game and unawares as to the realities of racing.

someone starving to death doesn’t care about racism and sexism either, doesn’t mean they’re silly first world problems. gotta agree with OP, seeing the jockeys whipping the horses seemingly as hard as they can wasn’t great either

The one that gets me is the fallers insurance offer, I am basically rooting for a horse to fall as I have laid the horse off and a free bet would be nice especially if it isn’t MBS etc.

In any other circumstance of course I wouldn’t want the horse to fall and potenitally injure himself and the jockey.

    Unbelievable!
Listen, if you have a problem here then it’s YOUR problem. Don’t bet on these things. You’re feeding the system.

You’re really pushing your guilt onto the jockeys. If you really feel that bad about it then stay away from it, stop watching it and stop crying about it.

Yes, there’s an element of guilt at profiting on the backs of these horses, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a problem inherent to the sport that horses are whipped and are prone to die. Both can apply at the same time, and that is the case here.

I’m pleased to listen to your point of view Dan, but I didn’t know this went on in racing and just wanted to raise awareness of the deaths that occurred last week. Also to hear the views of others on it.

The Minister – that’s one of the most moronic posts I have ever read.

You didn’t know jumps racing was dangerous???

You are either a complete mug or taking the piss.

Didn’t know the death rate was anywhere near as high.

I was aware horses died in racing etc. But when I saw the way a few came crashing down on there necks it did make me look in to it a bit more and the facts are a bit horrible. I guess it’s all about money and I know a lot of horses could be nursed back to a happy life away from racing but just get a bullet in the head as it’s cheaper. It’s racing and that the dark side of it. End of the day I went to McDonald’s today and the cow for my burger had a far shittier deal than the race horses.

Minister – you come across as a typical blinkered animal rights vegan treehugger who values the life of an animal as more important than a human life.

As someone who loves both humans and horses, I find it odd that you should seemingly abhor “cruelty” to a horse yet be happy for jockeys and owners to have their legs broken or be shot.

I’d suggest that the vast majority of MB’ers on this site love horses and horse racing and are genuinely saddened when a horse is fatally injured – unfortunately it comes with the territory.

No one likes a keyboard warrior so be careful who you are calling a twat. As far as I can see, there’s only one twat on this thread.

I think it was a good point badly made by the minister.

The last few months have opened my eyes to the danger that these horses are put in.

I’m often saddened by what I see.

Yes it makes me wonder if I am contributing to it….
