Cheltenham reflections

  • Reasonable returns in the end, like a few on here seems last race was the saviour. Was running at £80 down for the day till the last then hit 1st, 2nd & 3rd for a big win. Was pretty much the lowest possible return from first race, failed to lay a place which hit a massive drift then had to take a sizeable QL when Hills decided they’d start not actually applying the boost despite it being ticked

All done with minimal freebets, generally each way betting….. and very limited accounts to work with but found a couple new routes to get cash on. Although felt like hard work.

Not really sure what went on here, had the feel there weren’t as many freebets around from emails/banners I saw. Seemed to be more enhanced winnings. Hills doing 8 boosts a day was nice, although easing their restrictions was nicer

Had a good day at the festival on the Tues. I usually feel the need to bet every race, and look for a bit of value. Having various other bets on meant I missed out a couple of on course bets where the value wasn’t there, and could put a larger bet on Bevue D’air knowing I had Elgin/Melon covered for decent eway returns. Ended up with 3 winners from 5!
I meant to look out if there was each way value on the course, but to be honest was too busy having a normal drinking/betting day out.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Made just under £500 quid. Doing just MB offers. BET 365, William Hill, Skybet, Sports Nation and Paddy Power were good to me. Disappointed Coral and Betstars didnt do better offers. Betway were hit and miss with their free bets and still messing me about over £60 quid.

I made a nice amount :), congrats all. I think it’s about time I hang up my matched betting boots anyway, been following this blog for a while now and decided it’s time to stop, good luck all and all the best.

First Cheltenham as a matched better. Wasn’t feeling overly hopeful going in as I lost Hills, Betway and Paddy in the two weeks before hand, but I needn’t have worried.

Made nearly as much in 4 days as I usually would in 4 weeks. Mostly from money back offers and extra place races.

Worked at home on the first day, with a view to maximising profits. Not able to get on in work hours generally. In the end my profits were pretty even across the 4 days. Great advice from Chris to get as many bets on as you can the night before – really helped a lot.

    Best bookies for me
    Bet365
    Skybet
    Ladbrokes
Sportnation (£75 up on the £2.50 free bets)
Boyles (who have promptly gubbed me this weekend!)

I am certainly a low level amateur in comparison to many here, but I found plenty of opportunities to profit! Thanks to all for helpful posts on the forum!

Glad to see so many people doing well, and from different routes

Any consolation to the mistakes people I kicked the festival off chasing 5th/6th on the supreme novices. Adding things up the day after I noticed I had 900 on the win but paid out 997 on the exchange… dodgy mental arithmetic there. Guess I muddled decimal and fractional odds in my head

Imagine what you could do with a full set accounts, 5 days off work and a 30k bankroll. Maybe 40k if going max at it.

Bob- u still benefiting from the Ladbrokes roundings on the boost then? I used the hills one a bit to take off qls on each way bets, some of those races were never going to throw up worthwhile use of the boost on win only.

On Hills I won about 80 quid extra just by the roundings on the boost. Decent.

Despite having more experience and money this year to cover the festival than last year I made not much more, maybe £700 vs £500. The offers were far better just I seemed to hit almost nothing until the last day. Didn’t help I was at work the first day either. The Ladbrokes and Hills boost on every race were a great offer that would have made about £100 a race had the right horse won. Some days I had about 7 grand on one race then made about £70 from it. Just a frustrating time but one that wasn’t for the lackof trying.
