Cue Card

  • Cue Card has been retired today, trainer has decided not to run him at Sandown on 28th April, a decision I am somewhat relieved with given his recent runs.

Thanks for the memories fella, will never forget the Betfair Chase and King George 2015 races, defying the odds and beating the best of the best around at the time.

Cheltenham seems to be the place where the moments of racing heartbreak occur for me, most notably the deaths of Simonsig and Many Clouds in 2016 and 2017 respectively, but also Cue Card falling at the last when clear in the Gold Cup, something he never seemed to recover from.

Wish him the best in retirement, hope hes treated like the royalty he is. The term “special” is banded around in sport a lot, especially to football managers who win a trophy or two after spending billions of pounds but this horse truly is special, the peoples horse as they call him.

All the best Cue Card, much love from me <3

Chris – Cue Card has never been clear in any Gold Cup i can recall – yes going well coming the hill but never ever clear and definite to win. Over the years plenty good horses are seen to be going well coming down that hill but never get up the finishing straight. Still a long long punishing way to go!!

Thanks for the valuable input there.

I’m surprised you also didn’t point out that he fell at the third last not the last, I omited the word third in error.
