Each Way Arb Underlay

Now I have been reading about EW arbing and from what I have read it is profitable.
But I am not sure I am getting ‘it’ yet. Oddsmonkey have an each way matcher. From it one example I got was this:NOGUCHI 17.0
Step 1 BACK £25.00 EACH WAY (£50 total stake) with Totesport at Odds of 17.00
Step 2 LAY THE WIN for £28.39 with Smarkets at Odds of 14.99 – liability will be £397.18
Step 3 LAY THE PLACE for £28 with Betfair at Odds of 3.80 – liability will be £78.40
To give a profit of just £4.42. Is this a typical profit? Do you need to lay the win and place? How would underlaying in this example work to make it more profitable?

Instead of laying £28 & £28.39, and only guaranteeing £4 or so, you could lay £25.77 instead on the win part and if it wins you would make £39.48 whilst breaking even if it loses. On the place you could also lay £25.77, profiting £7 if it places and breaking even if it doesn’t.
Use https://www.trickybet.net/lay-calculator and play around with it, once you understand it you’ll be underlaying £25.77 on horses without thinking about it, its just about understanding it first.+0

Those odds from monkey were probably just before the race when the odds change every second. You won’t get an arb like that very often and it’ll go in seconds.
Read the thread and only bet £1ew to start.

+0I’ve never used the oddsmonkey tool so I can’t comment on whether it’d be useful or not. Personally I find looking over the card for the day a lot better as you can find races with potential to place multiple horses, better known as ‘Each way races’ which will increase your chances of landing the under lay dramatically.
For example today if you scanned the card you’d have found a gold mine in the 16:00 Wetherby. 1/4 odds paying 4 places.
Hours before the race you had
34.00-32.00 place 9.25-6.00
17.00-19.00 place 5.00-4.10
17.00-20.00 place 5.00-4.10
Even the second favourite 2.5-1.8’s on the place lay, before the off you then had 29-32 place 5’s, second horse 12s place 2.8’s, third horse 17’s place 3.7’s.If you’re worried the price will drift you can use 365 for the insurance of the cash out which is what I did with the 20.00 lay but thankfully it shortened. On the 19.00 lay 365 didn’t have 16/1 so was risky but after viewing the Betfair graph and seeing bookies becoming terrified on oddschecker I thought it was worth the risk. Also on these races under lay the place just before the off, if a horse is maintaining it’s price it’s likely to shorten. Hope this helps

Jay – how do you find these races?. Just brute analysis of oddschecker, backed by experience or some scientific way. Even a tool maybe.

+0Basically yeah, just looking from oddschecker to Betfair exchange, you’ll see a few close to the exchange price and some arbing on the place.

Lay the win 32/1 at £15.95This is an obvious arb, but the place part doesn’t seem to work out with odds of 9.2 at Smarkets not to place top 3
Not sure if I should be laying £12.58! And not sure this will make any money if it comes in.
