exchange takes stake & liability, calc only shows liability loss?

  • Hi,

I have read through the newbie guide, I have managed to get several free bets, though haven’t yet managed to profit off one. I appreciate this has probably been asked before, but, was not sure what to search for & couldn’t find an existing thread.

In this case, I won £21 at the bookies with a £5 free bet, but my exchange costs were £21.56.

Following the suggestion from the calculator I added my lay bet stake as £3.40, but, the liability was £17.68.
According to the calculator, I should make £3.32 profit if the bookie won.

I appears that the calculator is not showing the loss of the stake (£3.40), only the liability (£17.68), the exchange has taken both.

Could someone point this out what I am doing wrong?

I hope that makes sense, let me know if not.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Has this bet settled yet? If you have laid £3.40 as you say you should either be up at bookie or exchange depending whether it won or lost.

Bear in mind that you are looking at the LIABILITY – thats what you will lose if the bet wins. if the bet loses you will get more because you will get the amount that the backer has stumped up plus your money back, but it only shows as what you will potentially lose.

Its hard to get your head around at first, so wait til the bet has settled and look at your balances, hopefully it will make sense then
