My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

extra places in the 2pm and 3.45pm goodwood tomorrow huzzah.

incidentally, how are people playing the 4/1 bet365 if its an extra place race and you have a risk free? lay the place as usual and underlay the win part? (for £50 e/w)

Not been in that position yet deathstar but I would just use the risk free calculator for the win part of the bet and lay off the place as normal.

Feel like im getting closer to a 5th place win, I’ve done six, all at 365 and havent hit any of them but it only takes one to come in with an instant £250+ win.

yeah I’m inclined to do that, can’t get my head round it at the moment.
I try and get at least 3 or 4 bets on every time theres an extra place over the bookies I have left, but I haven’t hit one at all this festival, during chelts they were rolling in.
Was very lucky at the beginning of the month though, I didn’t have time to look properly so I just put one bet on jungle cat and he done the business, so it can be done. keep plugging away and i’m sure you’ll catch one.

I’ve been trying since Cheltenham for an extra place and can’t hit it. My first go my horse was beaten out to 6th by a nose. Second one I thought I hit but then it ended up a non runner meant the terms changed so the extra place was the 4th…

Haven’t come close again yet and do at least 5 horses per race if the odds are favourable….. I feel though if I get one then they might start rolling in.

I’m restricted heavily on 188bet who used to do a lot of extra place races so my opportunities are limited . I’m itching to get one.

Interesting question on how to extract profit off free bet and still play for extra place if you win the race before.

    I think I would bet 25 ew.

I wouldn’t lay the place part at all. Lay the win part just enough to extract whatever profit you want.

At the moment I’m playing to guarantee €2 per race by overlaying. When I lose I am simply 2 up at exchange. When I win then I’m down in real money maybe about €10 depending on how tight my odds were so have to only lay €14 ish to reclaim my loss, make up the €2 target per race on last race and make the €2 for the current race.

Works well because I’m never stuck, always edging up. Win a couple of races in a row and I will be up big because seriously underlaying free bets as you see.

So in a long round about way of explaining. I would lay about €14 or whatever I owe myself on the win part and let the rest ride…. Like a genuine free punt. Wouldn’t really bother going for the extra place…

Can you put the win part in the calculator as a free bet? If your horse places you won’t get a refund?

“If your risk free bet is an Each-Way selection that is placed, and the return on the bet is less than the total stake, we will refund the difference between your return and the total stake. If your return is greater than the total stake then no refund will be given.”

I got caught out by this earlier in the week. They WONT pay out if your horse places

£730 profit since Tuesday FACT….hit a few extra places but just put the hours in that I think a lot of the newbies such as the guy kicking off at me the other day arent willing to do

Average £100 a day so far this week, pretty happy with that especially as I lost 365 between races yesterday.

Anyway, if you’ve been restricted you can still do the 4/1 offer. Winnings restricted to £50 plus each way, so can get £12.50 e/w on a 5.0 horse. If it wins you’ve got risk free £25 on the next. If odds are low enough can get it all on at a lowish extraction, or just punt it. It all adds up and is still risk free.

If you’re not restricted, I found the best way to minimise liability is go for £25 e/w – if that wins then you’ve got £50 risk free.

Can also get more out of fred/tote boosts by going each way. I tend to be restricted to about £25 win but can get about £20 e/w on these. Each way return is normally better, especially this week where e/w lay odds are competitive.

cheers for the advice guys. I’ve just spotted that term about not paying if you win more than the risk free stake by getting a place. so I think i’ll just go £25 e/w and lay the win part.

Of course, another way would be to just back a horse, then bet e/w on another horse but I’m never sure how dodgy that looks. and knowing my luck, the wrong horse would come fifth.

@deathstar: nothing dodgy about that, it’s standard mug betting behaviour to back a favourite to win but also back a longer shot each way in the hope it grabs a place.

I often do that deathstar. I draw the line at 5 horses though.
