Grand National Thread

  • Seeyouatmidnight is 21/21. Could be worth NRNB or extra place since bookies look like 5 places on antepost and exchange is 4.

Neither probably a whole lot of value but combined I think worth a little shot.

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Rain forecast all week, going to be a slog.

That’s good for me Bob. I think it’s become over sanitised with the recent changes – changes to jumps and recent handicap change made it more like an extending gold cup than a slog

I think in the past you could put a line through a lot of horses based on stamina and jumping ability, then pick a handful of horses who maybe have no form but can jump and run forever. It’s worked for me in the past with value picks anyway.

Yeah, plenty of non-finishers I suspect (similar to Fairyhouse last week). They will go off too fast as usual. Time to dig out the form book for mudlarks that have been over the big jumps before.

6 at 1/5 or 5 at 1/4 odds seem to be best so far… not great really and not much between them.

I wouldnt jump the gun on the weather yet.

Forecast is for rain up until Friday but could be wrong and the expected temperatures are high enough to potentially dry the course out. Depends how much it gets cut up on Thursday and Friday. I recall last year that it was glorious weather on the Friday and Saturday having rained in the lead up.

Not many fell last year actually, lots were pulled up as the race went on and most importantly all horses returned home safely.

Milansbar is my pick, will handle whatever the ground and is a good stayer. Wont be placing any bets until Friday night at the earliest.

Whatever happens I’ll be waiting until BOG applies.

Unlikely to get an arb otherwise.

Is it just me or has just about every bookie reduced the place terms this year?

Pretty sure I read that the SP overround last year was about 150% so if you are going to get a close match you will need to do it early.

SP always embarrassing in the National, literally everything shortens.

There are lots of bookies paying extra places but only 1/5 odds, which is pretty rubbish.
Betfair were definitely 5 places 1/4 odds last year (they’re 5 places 1/5 odds atm).

The bookies dont need to compete for business for the grand national, they just rake it in

Plenty of bookies are still paying 1/4 odds on 5 places though.

Looking at social media, it seems the Bet365 offer may be invite only this year and I wonder if they will reduce the refund down too.

    Was ineviatable really.

coral money back up to £10 in the 2.20
question is have they ungubbed me or screwed up marketing preferences

I don’t remember a huge deal of value on last yrs national, aside from bet365. Something I even noticed as a supposed mug punter that the books with better place terms often offer worse odds. Think I had a few extra place shots, plus picked off a few each way arbs late on last yr

You don’t have to be that early to get the value, Fri night sees plenty varied odds. It’s late sat morning that a lot seems to shorten, and bookies act like it’s 10mins out with reluctance to increase the drifters odds!
