Gubbed by Betway

  • Hello chaps,
I’m quite new to matched betting so love this blog, but I don’t frequent forums very much.
However, I thought this may be relevant to some of you – I recently opened a Betway account and got gubbed immediately.
I placed my first bet of £30 on West Ham (which lost), then got my £30 free welcome offer bet. This again went on West Ham just before the match (I stick to the same team for each bookie). Unfortunately, at 5.00, it won me £120 – but straightaway I got the gubbing e-mail.
So there it is – restricted for doing Betway’s opening offer. I haven’t replied to them yet, but I think I’ll tell them it’s a bit heavy-handed.
Anyway, I hope you have better (bad) luck with Betway.
    Regards,
    Mo.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Hey, and welcome. The whole site is great, but the forum is where it’s at, Mo. You should spend a bit more time and post in here if you can 🙂

You might want to check that they are not confusing you with an existing/previous account holder. Apparently this can be common when they hit you with the gubbing stick SO soon. Perhaps your address has been that of a previous account holder, or something like that? Quick chat with live chat should see you right.

If they have really gubbed you after a single offer then that is frankly laughable, although would not surprise me tbh.

    All the best 🙂

losing Betway is no great loss

minimal markets, industry-worst prices on everything and a small handful of usually rubbish offers

I got gubbed by them yesterday as well.
I think I used them very early on when I started out with matched betting. Haven’t wagered anything since.

Their email made me laugh though:
“This decision is final and will not be overturned but let us assure you this action has been taken only after much consideration by our senior trading team.”

I like the idea of their senior trading team spending hours deliberating over whether to gub me or not. Hope they managed to sleep easy last night and were not to racked with guilt.

    Hello chaps,
Thanks for all your replies – and the suggestion to try live chat with them and ask whether a mix-up has been made. I hadn’t thought of that. Anyway, onwards and upwards.
    Regards,
    Mo.

Getting tired of people complaining about getting banned/restricted. You are doing matched betting. You take money from them.

    Mark,but after 2 bets ?
How do they know he is a matched bettor – unless they already have that info from elsewhere.

Yes, this is partly why I took a moment to register and post here. I am new to matched betting so was curious about being limited so quickly, and thought perhaps it could be useful to share that information.

I didn’t mean it to sound like a complaint and, no, I certainly don’t believe the bookies owe me anything. I’m happy: I made £22 off Betway while sitting around in my monogrammed smoking jacket at home eating crisps.

    Mo.

If these bookies are going to offer promos and free bets then they’d better be prepared for people to use them.

I imagine a good number of regular punters get gubbed as well without even knowing what matched betting is. I got gubbed by BetVictor within 5 days of signing up…basically I won some money with them and they didn’t seem to like. Just luck of the draw sometimes. At least with Betway you’re not losing much in the way of offers. I hate their site as well…don’t know who decided a black background is conducive to happy betting!

Yep I got the “gubbed” email the other day too. I’ve only done a few of their Saturday horse racing offers (bet £30 on C4 races and get £10 free to use on Sunday) and last weekend all 3 selections lost and then my free bet on Sunday also lost…. but still got gubbed! Where is the logic in that??!! They have been making more money from me than I have from them yet they still ban you from offers. @CashedUp is right… they offer customers promos and free bets but they dont like it when customers do them! The bookies are a joke!!

I’ve just found a gubbing email in my spam folder from these clowns. I’ve hardly used them!

Surprised at people saying Betway don’t offer much value. I must have made over 150 quid within the last month because of their enhanced price club offers. Their offer on Ireland v Italy yesterday banked me 45 quid in free bets. Very decent bookie, although I am fully expecting an imminent restriction.

I just got gubbed by them this afternoon. No e-mail, but while I was able to place a £5 qualifier this morning, the one I tried to place this afternoon was restricted to £4.40.
I have made £750 out of them in the past 3 months though, and didn’t place any mug bets, so I suppose it’s hardly surprising.
I did like them though, and their offers.
