Gubbing – what happens?

  • Hi,

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but I was wondering exactly what happens when you’re gubbed – as in, are you still able to withdraw any funds that are available to you? Are you banned from the site for a certain period of time?

Also, if your stakes are limited (as I believe can happen?) could this seriously hamper your chances of completing rollover requirements to extract profit from deposit bonus offers? I recently completed one of these offers, but won a number of bets with the bookie in the process and so had a large amount tied up in my ‘bonus balance’ … if I had been gubbed would I have potentially lost all this balance? Just trying to weigh up whether it is worth the risk trying any other offers like these …

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

    Welcome Tom
Basically when you are “gubbed” it usually means that the bookie has taken away your bonuses and limited your stakes. the bookie *should* inform you, but usually the first you know of it is when either your free bet doesn’t turn up, or you can only get a couple of quid on whatever you are betting on. sometimes they will limit the amount you can win rather than the stake you can bet. They can’t just withhold your winnings without good reason so you can withdraw (as long as you haven’t got rollover pending)

Gubbings during the welcome bonus are quite rare but notable exceptions would be RaceBets and the group including boylesport apollobet etc. only thing you can do when that happens is to try and plod through as best you can, sometimes you can get more money on at low odds, closer to kick off, or even taking SP on horses – this takes great skill though as you need to do it in the minutes before the race begins, deffo not for newbies or the faint-hearted!
There are plenty of bookies that don’t have rollover welcome bonuses, so stick to them to start with.

Thanks for the advice deathstar … my main concern was whether to take up a deposit bonus offer I’ve been offered recently (not a welcome bonus one) and getting gubbed in the middle of trying to meet the rollover requirements, with potentially exchange money being tied up in my bonus balance.

if its for bet365 you should be ok, just try and bet on big markets (premier league footie etc) and make sure you have enough in your exchange to cover all the rollover bets in case they all win.
