On these extra place offers what sort of difference in the odds is acceptable/normal range on the lay place part compared to a normal match given one is for top 3 the other is say 1/4 odds top 5? Or is the case its just the same business as usual and you will find similar odds for the place part despite one being top 5 and the other being top 3?

not sure you’ve got the hang of it jamieek, if you are going for the extra place you need the bookie to pay out more places than the exchange, otherwise if you bet on a horse that comes fourth and the bookies is only paying 3 places and the exchange is paying 4 places you would lose both bets.

That said, you can usually find good match ups in the like for like markets, so if you go to betfair and look at the 5 place market (assuming the bookie is paying 5 places) the odds should be ok. of course there is no point betting on something unless it is an arb.

No i do understand that part. What i’m getting at is when placing a normal bet say (back) 3/3.1 (lay) its easy to see whats an acceptable qualifying loss. However when laying a place say its top 3 on the exchange lay odds 2.2 but 1.7 on back part normally that would be too much a gap but 1.7 is for a place in top 5 so might be acceptable. On these lay place markets do you have to do an extra calculation or you just looking for/and expect to see a close match on screen as you normally would e.g 2/2.05.
