horse racing strategy

  • Hi,

I’ve read a lot over the last few months about how profitable horse racing offers are. So, after a few months doing just football offers, I decided to take the plunge.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have done 5 sky bet money back 2nd or 3rd and backed the favourite each time. Not only has the favourite not won, it hasn’t come in 2nd/3rd either in any of them

Is this just unlucky or is there a better strategy I should be using?

    Thanks in advance

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Giveitago. I think you have probably been unlucky not to hit a 2nd or 3rd. But not that unlucky really – you need a bigger sample than 5 races to get an overall picture.

It’s a gamble. You have to look at the qualifying loss and weigh it up against the chance of hitting a free bet and the value of the free bet. Usually the effective odds are quite good and worth doing.

I study the form too. Todays race was really tricky as there was no form, most of the horses were running for the second or third time which meant it was a completely unpredictable race. The favourite and second favourite came 7th and 6th respectively from a field of 11.

Tomorrows race (the 1.55), whilst a lot more open and a bigger field does at least provide the chance to check the stats on the horses wins and places.

I’ll be going for Laugh Aloud based on the fact he has great form in being placed in the top 3.

Thanks fog blog and Chris for your replies.
I will definitely persevere with it and will probably start to check the form too.

My thinking was if the favourite doesn’t win, then there would be a decent chance of a place

@ giveitago, as Fog says 5 races isn’t really enough of a sample size to mean anything. I usually do this offer to ensure I get the £5 free bet. Its not too difficult to get at least £4 from that so lets say you lose £2 on the 2nd/3rd offer, you should still be up at least £2 every week. Then now and again you will hit the £25 FB. I think I have been lucky as I don’t study form and know nothing about horse racing, but I have had loads of these FBs from Sky. I’m amazed they haven’t gubbed me by now.
