How to do the horsies

  • Hi guys,
great resource we’ve got going on in here.
I’ve mastered the football offers but struggling with the horses.

It seems to me that the best offers are the ones where you get cashback if you come second, but I can’t find tight enough odds between the back and the lay.

I’m making at least a £3 loss attempting to qualify for the offer and I’m very rarely qualifying so it’s getting expensive.

Would really appreciate some help and tactics.

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

With the horses, be quick, look close to the starting time. A lot of the action on the exchange happens in the last minute.

The money back 2nd to SP offers and beaten by a length offers are not the best to be honest.

For 2nd to SP look for races with a small field (<10 runners) and a short favourite and obviously back the 2nd fav if QL are right.

For beaten by length also look for small field and look at backing the favourites only (anything else in my opinion is too unlikely to finish anywhere near the front).

You won’t be getting on many races each day, you should be skipping races if the qualifying losses aren’t worth it. Generally you will be looking for qualifying losses of less than £1 for most of the offers except for 2nd to SP offer which you can stretch the qualifying losses if there is a particularly good chance that your horse will be 2nd and the SP fav will win.

The extra place races are worth looking at as well as B365 4/1+ offer and betfair’s 3/1+ offer.

By the way, you say cashback when you come 2nd. Do you mean money back as a free bet if 2nd to SP.

Straight money back 2nd offers are fantastic – quite easy to get on every race with a decent QL and quite a good chance of hitting a free bet, but haven’t seen them offered around much.

I’m talking about the daily offers usually on tote sport for free bet if finishes 2nd, it makes no mention of second to SF.

So are you saying that the bet fair and bet 365 offers are the best even though your horse has to win the race?

It really depends on the race. If it is a big wide open field the money back 2nd offer can be a lottery and usually isn’t worth it unless you can get on for next to nothing.

I’m making most of my money right now on the 4/1+ offer, but when will hill and paddy power used to do money back 2nd offer I never even bothered with the 4/1+ offer.

Not a lot of great horse offers out there at the moment.

    thank you that’s really helpful.
I’ll have a go at the 4/1+ offer, I guess the strategy is to go for the favourite on each race.

So for the Bet365 feature/C4 races we back horses with lower odds, say upto 7?.
For BetFred FB if second we go for a second favourites, say upto 9?.

    Hi sleepless.

For 4/1+ offer on B365 you need tight back and lay odds. 5.0 up to 7.0 sounds good as long as you can find the favourable lay too. With 5.0 be very careful because any rule 4 deduction will reduce your price and you won’t qualify any more. So to be cautious perhaps look at 5.5 to 7.0.

For money back 2nd my preference was always to go for the favourite. I did some analysis and horses like 3/1 only finish 2nd like 20% of the time and it gets worse for longer odds. Obviously depends on the make up of the races and the number of runners and the Qualifying Losses but a short-ish favourite is usually more likely to win you the free bet before any other horse in the race. I know you’re thinking the 2nd favourite is more likely to finish 2nd – but its not generally true as far as i can see.

Anyway. Good luck. Feel it out for yourself. Don’t take advise blindly. Keep good records so that you can improve your strategies and see where you are making most money or losing most money.
