Is this a Big Mistake?

  • Hi, please can you help

Yesterday I backed and layed a football team to win, from a qualifying offer.

Today, I took up the free bet offer from the same bookie, but, without checking, I backed the other team to win, from the qualifying bet. (I’ve made so many bets in the last few days that it slipped my mind)

So basically I’ve put bets on opposing football teams to both win, in the same match at the same bookies.

What would be the consequences of this cock up?

    Thanks

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

In a way, there’s nothing inconstent about such a bet – most bookmakers offer a Double Chance market where you can back two of the three possible outcomes in a football match in the one bet i.e. Home/Draw, Away/Draw, Home/Away.

That said, it’s probably better to avoid placing opposing bets in general, it makes it look like you are thinking about your bets, looking for value, when what you want to look like is a mug.

But unless you want to go to the trouble of contacting them, saying you made a mistake and can they undo it, I wouldn’t worry too much, they probably won’t even notice right now. It might raise an eyebrow if (when) they later review your account, but then what they do will depend on the pattern of all your bets anyway.
