Is XG a reliable metric?

  • I have been following the Allsvenskan football and have been looking at XG to find potential value winners. I have been watching the highlights and looking at the XG stats on sofascore, and to me they don’t add up. Today I compared the XG stats for the match between Oster and Malmo – sofascore had the respective XG as 1.82 v 1.56, whereas flashscore had the respective XG as 0.98 v 1.18 (Malmo won 2-0). Such a difference in the XG figures, to me, suggests that XG is an unreliable indicator of team performance. Is there a more reliable source?
