Just started – struggling to find things to bet on!

  • I’ve just made my first qualifying bet with Coral (spend £5, get £20) and now need to place my free £5 bets. I’ve been looking around Smarkets for a while for anything upcoming to bet on and of the few things I’ve found with higher than around 6.0 odds have no available liability funds to place the lay bet against (presumably because of the high odds?).

What am I missing here? I’ve spent the last hour just trying to find ANYthing to place my free bets on (to make all of £15), mostly looking at football and horse racing, but any others sports I looked at were much the same. I’m guessing I’m doing something wrong!

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Anything above 5.00 (4/1) is fine for placing free bets.

I’ve just had a quick look at tonight’s Champions League matches and Red Bull Salzburg look like an option with back and lay odds of 7.50 and 8.00 respectively.

Thanks for replying here Matt. Do you have any articles or general tips on how to go about actually finding good options for free bets? Particularly ones with available liability funds for the lay bet. This is the main thing I’m struggling with at the moment as any decent upcoming bets I’d found had minimal liability funds on Smarkets.

I have a free bets guide that you might find useful.

Generally though, it’s just a case of sticking to high profile football matches and horse races. You should be able to find something on Smarkets, but there’s always the option of Betfair too. Betfair often have better odds and liquidity.
