Laying Horses
-
I know this is the matched betting section, but didn’t think it belongs in Chit-Chat
Anyone else lay horses?
Now that my matched betting income has dwindled, I thought I would give it a go for small money.
I know its obviously gambling but it’s obviously a lot easy to pick a horse that doesn’t win.So far I’m £180 up. I’ve laid 26 horses, 22 have lost and only 4 won.
Seems to me with a good knowledge of horse racing this could be a good way to boost income……….
At the moment I’m sticking to lower odds horses and only £10-20 stakes. Average odds are 4.0
Just wondered what extra things can I look out for?
Was thinking about the weather and so on making things less predicable etc
At the moment I’m just guessing after reading the racing post app, but I’d love to improve my chances.+2June 15, 2016 at 1:18 pm

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

I do have plenty of gubbed accounts so could try doing that.
I do not have a good knowledge of horse racing, so I definitely need to learn a bit more.
I don’t have a system or anything. I’ve only been successful so far due to luck I guess.
I’m a bad loser too, so if I pick 2 or 3 winners in a row then I’d be proper pissed off.
However, at small stakes and low odds the damage shouldn’t be so bad.Patrick, I could post my selection on here, but I usually do it at the very last minute
I’ll see what I can do.If pasting from excel works, here are my results so far:

+0I have picked one……..
2.55 Chelmsford – Cape Icon. Laid £10 at 3.15………..
+0And thats a boom.
+0Well done mate. What was your selection criteria? Feel free not to answer if you’d rather not!
It was fairly well tipped and won the last race on similar ground/distance. Although there were plenty of previous wins amongst the other entrants I would have thought it was a fairly brave lay?
+0The odds suggested it would lose twice out of 3 times so not surprised it lost. Ice has said earlier above on the thread that he doesnt know a lot about racing so I would suggest it was more luck than anything
+0Yes, I get that, but I’m interested
+0beaser……I picked this horse as on the racing post app it was the most tipped but only 4 out of 16 tips. Another 3 horses were tipped 3 times, including Strong Steps who I noticed dropping in price. I kinda had a feeling that was a good horse from previous bets or something.
Anyhow, spotlight also said “it remains to be seen whether this come too quickly and, from the widest draw.
So that’s it, and the odds were fairly short.Only a £10 lay though, so I need to get a few more tonight.
My thinking is that just doing one lay at higher stakes would be better as the more I do the more chance I have of picking a winner.
However I always bottle it when placing the lay ha ha+0Get regular offer updates, tip and tricks, big offer alerts and more straight to your inbox.
Next lay:
Carolinae in the 5.50 at Lingfield……….£20 at 2.6
+0Poor choice. Got £10 back with Haulani in the 6.20
+0Sorry to hear it ice. Don’t let the mishap put you down. It’s not as if it’s wiped your profits out. Just a minor set back.
P.s. don’t go chasing the losses
+0Next up is Dusty Blue. No one seems to think its gonna win…..
Risky £10 at 5.2+0Except the market. Looks like a bad day today
+0ice I’ve tried this with £25 stakes never going above 5 was doing well until i hit a few on the trot. I may try again for horses at 2.0 – 3.0 as liability won’t be much if you have a winner. Must admit i follow a tipster who’s strike rate is near 40% and he up £3000 so far this month and he had cape icon backed at £50 and it lost so a bit of a lottery.
+0ICE – try laying the current favourites in the last 3 races at FFos Las tonight. Maybe for say a tenner each and I will feedback in the morning – I’m actually heading out as of now but will check the results later tonite and I will revert tomorrow.
+0Kjilman you have hit the nail on the head.
That sequence will come as sure as night follows day.+0
