New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Also sounds great having someone else in your ear with adviice! Maybe ill have to train the misses up and get her in as part time assistant!
+0Are you guys overthinking the phone thing?
I honestly think 5% of the population are now permanently glued to Facebook so using a phone hardly stands out. If you get a bit worried just load the racecards off sporting life or racing post on a separate tab then leave your phone & wallet on counter whilst placing a bet just to let them see it’s not Betfair.
When I did a few in shop accas I wrote down the lay prices of the likely candidates as well as some fractional odds conversions that were beyond me, which left minimal checking to be done on my phone.
+0Wincanton is today’s MBS
Good luck all
+0Betman – yes you are probably right but I do find when using the free bets that having someone on the outside and able to dble check the odds works really well
+0Thanks very much TP. Looks ok at first glance. Good luck!
+0Thanks tennispunter good luck…
+0Solid day on the mbs2 (etxra place race was v nice, got 2 multi e/w arbs on The sweeney & waterloo warrior and a losing lay on Miss poet- underlayed all 3 and nearly got the dream 124!). One decent 2nd – canoldie-. Sadly a fall at the last by the clear leader cost a big 2nd on Buster Thomas. Last race here for me 450- top 2. Not bothering with the last 2 races.

Scabbadab – how soon before you get listed in Fortune 500!
Out of interest how much are you prepared to lose on the favourite when underlaying? – I do tend to be tempted into going the other way and overlaying which I dont think is all that sensible with the favourites but then again you just never know.
+0Its a risky tactc i guess. But I think in a lot of these mb2 races (smaller field obviously the better) that laying nothing at all is the way to go on short price shots (prob everything else also) It helps that ive built up a nice profit on these for about 2 months so i am kind of playing with ‘chips’ ive already won.
As a rough example if ive backed a 6/4 in a 6 horse race in say 5 shops £100 at 6/4 ill prob lay about 75 at say 2.55(estimate) So if it wins Im about £50 up- 2nd roughly the same after taking into account win loss FB value. And 25 +comms down on a nowhere finish. At a rough estimate I’ll be up £50 65-70% of the time down 25 the rest. If nothing else it keeps the buzz going/profs coming in more often than the less often clean +75/80 for a 2nd. And if nothing else I’m cutting down on commision by about 25% which can certainly add up! doing these tonnes of daily bets/lays.If this offer keeps going for some considerable time I’m pretty sure I’ll be reducing my lay amounts gradually and wont be long before getting to zero!
+0It has been going really well! but I do have the odd losing day- take Saturday for e.g- quite a few 2nds but very few winners. And a few multi bets that drifted out so much- and lay was so much off bog price near the off- that I laid next to nothing (also shoved a load of free bet tickets unlayed on the scotish national and somehow managed to get none in the top 6!)
The extra place races are lovley when comined with a money back 2nd. Whack on as much as I can on the shortish price horses laying reasonably close (pref somewhere beetween 12-16 runners) and underlay them about 25% and have multi shots at 1/2 and 4th. Which paid off very nicely today in a near perfect extra place race. Also don’t lay very often till very close to race time- as long as the lay is close to price at time of bet placed I’m happy to let nature take its course- unless its a bang on much or the rare case of a n arb ( which happened today in the extra place race and crops up on any bad e/ws)
+0bang on much! = bang on match
+0Cheers Scabbadab – thks for the really useful information/advice – much to think about and may need to change tack a little in my approach.
Despite the fact I have made 000’s and 000’s over the past few years I still have an aversion to taking much risk apart from laying the odd horse (no real reason other than it’s easier to pick a loser as opposed to a winner – no proper logic in that I know given when a horse you have layed does win it hurts your bank!).
I could see the value in not laying acca’s (in the past when the offers were fantastic) but still struggled with the risk on anyone day/week and preferred the lay sequential methodology which guaranteed smaller regular profits
Anyway thks again for this and will be looking to underlay going forwards on some of the races.
+0The Betfair app is great for quickly scanning the lays, easy to tab through races. Know what you mean with freebets though, my sole in shop freebet from my accas was a poor extraction by me
Nice logic on laying scabbadad. I suspect you’d need a v big bankroll to withstand variance on your bet volume, but the %lay method is a good part way solution.
Online I stopped laying smaller offers, bigger bets or multiple bets on same horse i’d look to part lay in same way as youFreebets I only lay 80%, still aiming for 90% EV (depending on terms and bookie)
+0Cheers betman/TP for your insights/approaches. I guess it all comes down to what your comfy with. I do know that since going in fairly heavy on these multi shop mb2 etc bets that the amount I’m laying off has rocketed!. So my weekly commisions is getting much more signicant than it used to be. As these mb2s have brought in a very nice profit already a reduction in lays % seems sensible for me now. Think I’m going to trim down to 50% on all bets from today (my notion being if you have placed the bet mb2/bad e/w etc its been done because you believe its a good thing so less laid the better- due to commison charges- in the long run)
I have always hated having losing days! (betting/poker etc) but its time to do what ever is the best long term move and accept there will be some ‘bad’ days.
+0PP is pontefract today lads. Had a quick glance and it looks very decent- some smallish fields/possible bad ew shots and at least 1 16 runner handicap. On top of that there could well be some bad ew shots elsewhere thoughout the day. So its looking a full steam ahead day.
Lets do this! Good fishing
