Newbie Question
-
I’ve been trying to wrap my head around E/W betting. But there is a term or acronym that people use that I do not understand.
Below is a comment I pulled from the forum that contains the thing that is confusing me:
“Loaded up on barbosa at 5s this 230”
My question is, what does the lower case ‘s’ refer to when it follows a number, like the above example ‘5s’
I know this is probably bread and butter stuff, but a quick explanation would go a long way 😀

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

It’s referring to the odds of the horse winning.
5s is another way of saying 5/1..
+0Really?! Oh wow…. now i feel thoroughly dense. Thank you for clarifying though!
+0It was a sensible question.
The other part of it is that some people will write the odds fractionally (ie 5/1 in your example) and some people, like me, will write the odds as a decimal (ie 6.0 in your example).
I’ve only ever seen people use 5s to mean a fractional odd though.
There you go – a lot more information than you asked for (or wanted)!
Good luck with the ew arbing!
+0Haha, nothing wrong with more info! Thanks!
