Paypal question (2nd account)

  • I got gubbed by Paddypower a few months ago, but last year I opened a few accounts for my mum and made her a few hundred quid from sign up offers. She has let me use her PP account since I was gubbed and shes deposited to it from her card and I paid her the cash back.

However I’ve now lost all my balance and need to top up. I could repeat the process again and get her to use her card and I pay her back – but was wondering if I could fund the account myself using PayPal.

What details do PP see when adding a new Paypal deposit/withdrawal method. I can use the email address in my mums name I created last year, but do I have to enter her personal details or can I put my own name, DOB etc and my own bank card? Or will PP see these details when I register the paypal account (and I would get immedately gubbed)

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Why not send a PayPal gift to your mum’s account and fund from that?

Apologies if I’m misunderstanding steveo – my mum doesn’t have a PayPal account. I was wanting to open one up with her email address but my details and bank card attached to it, and link this to my mums PP account. I can use her email address for this but want to use my bank card – but this is the one I used for my now gubbed and closed PP account.

Putting it more simply. I want to be able to fund my mums PP account without having to ask her to use her bank card to fund it then pay her back each time.

Ah gotcha. I don’t think the merchant (bookie) sees any more details than the PayPal email and customer name address. The only problem might be with PayPal and linking your bank details to account in a different name.

If it were me I’d set up the account and link it with your mum’s bank then set up a faster payment to pay her bank account from yours. You can then fund the PayPal account from her bank (not card) using her log in and load it with the cash you’ve just sent across. When paying the bookies just pay from PayPal balance.

Thanks again steveo. I was really hoping I could cut my mum and her bank out of the equation but as I suspected PayPal wouldn’t accept my bank card against my mums details. Oh well thanks for your help anyway

You can only have one paypal account – that is their stance, which is totally understandable from a security/money laundering point of view.

Once you have linked a bank account and/or bank card to one paypal account, you cannot link it to another one (well, you probably can, but you will likely soon be contacted to explain yourself).

I can see what you are trying to do here, and the only way you can get round this is to set up an entirely new paypal account (in your mum’s name if you wish) that uses a DIFFERENT funding source to your own paypal account. You could open a new bank account in your name and use that (quick and easy to do). I do not think it would be a problem that ‘her’ paypal account was linked to ‘your’ (new) bank account tbh.

The only sticking point there will be once you have received £1k+ into you shiny new second paypal account (i.e. from bookie withdrawals) they will ask “you” to prove you identify (as in your mum’s identify – utility bill, passport….) under the ‘know your customer’ regulations. At that point you will have to get your mum to provide those documents to you to give to paypal, which might not be ideal if you are trying to hide all of this from her? If not and you have her full support and blessing, then it should not be a problem.

    Good luck
