Profited from non runner

  • Did a £20 back/lay at odds of 5/4.8(BF as I had funds there).Would have been a 1p profit if the horse won (which it did). Was trying to lose dosh from bookie to BF,sods law the horse won!
Anyway, one horse failed to start but,8 runners still raced. When I checked my accounts the bookie (Betfred) only paid me £92 instead of £100 and BF put my lay odds at 4.28 instead of 4.80 so only took £69.04 off me instead of £79.99.
So £3 up in the end instead of 1p,Result!!

I wasnt bothered if you care or not ;). Just trying to help you out. Itll explain what happens when a horse is withdrawn and may help you down the line for example if your doing bet365 4/1 offer. If you back a horse @ 4/1 and theres a rule 4 deduction you wont get the risk free bet and you could lose a few quid in the process.

Thanks for posting that Pickle, I don’t think I knew (or perhaps had forgotten) about how rule 4 can effect the B365 4/1 offer.

No probs Dave. Ive been known to back horses before @ 5.0/5.4 if i think theyre gonna win. That has a qualifying loss of £24.49. Only takes one horse not to start to give you a hefty loss if you dont notice it. Mind you another tip is dont try and put a £200 bet and lay on whilst waiting for your wife outside a supermarket like i did last night and managing to somehow now get your lay on :(.

Thanks Pickle,Wasn’t being funny.I know a bit about rule 4 having gained from it in this case and having lost out from it in the past!
I was just surprised as 8 runners still went off but,the horse that failed to start obviously triggered rule 4.I never do the bet365 4/1 offer. In this case I was just doing a straight back/lay with no profit or loss to try to change funds from bookie to exchange lol

No probs. Rule 4 applies regardless of how many runners there are. Its solely based on the price of the horse at the time its withdrawn. Any horse thats 14/1 or less at that time will have it applied. It is actually profitable if your horse wins and there is a horse withdrawn thats more than 14/1 as the exchanges still make a small deduction to your lay price.

Hi biscuit, I’m wondering if you were thinking of the place payment rules for each way betting, that changes if the number or runners falls below 8.

One other thing to mention boyos is that if the rule 4 deduction is only 5p a lot of bookies don’t deduct…ill call out william hill / skybet / 365 as good ones in this case and betfred not surprisingly bad

Had one saturday where a horse was reduced from 10/1 to 9/1 on hills at 9:48, and subsequently withdrawn at 9:48. Meaning a 10% rule 4 rather than a 5% waived one on all bets. Its things like that that make me enjoy matched betting more and thats a FACT WRAP!
