New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

I saw the race Brasted was 5th/6th most of the race and made a late surge to capture the 2nd place, the Fave Justice First was leading though most of it I think and dropped off near the end, finished about 6th I think, anyway my first ever crack at a refund offer and Brasted did it for me :),thanks for the alert to the offer Beh.
+0Tony I have seen the lay price tumble after I already laid previously.
It was my fault for waiting this time but after I bet at 3.25 the odds on sky went down to 3.00 and on Will Hill was 2.87.
I thought I had half a chance of laying closer to my back odds but paid the priceKnew I should have overlaid.
I wonder how much you could profit just by laying the favourite £10 in every race
+0I’m liking Freud
+0Some truth in what you’re saying imho.
Howver, whilst you enjoy gambling more, presumably you made less profit than MB? If these offers wind you up that much then just don’t do them mate – I know exactly how you feel, I felt the same way when I started doing them.
You need to be “winning” at least 1 in 10 of them to make it profitable at all, ideally more like 1 in 6 to make it worth the time it takes. I dare say that I have not achieved a 1 in 6 strike rate (might look back through my records and check later on)
The thing with these offers (just my opinion of course) is not to feel like you HAVE to do every one that comes along. A lot of people probably feel like they MUST take advantage, but if you treat them more as a now and then thing, only partaking conditions are right (i.e. low no. of runners, some clear favourites, close odds when you check – whether that is the morning or the race, an hour before hand, or in the last 60 seconds before the off). Just give the offer 2 minutes of your time to see if the conditions are “right” and if not then leave it.
+0Sort of agree with Tony, it’s definitely risky. But as long as people aren’t expecting the odds to fall off a cliff near to post, I think you can sometimes spot some value comparing the odds across a few bookies. I’m only interested in keeping qualifying losses to a minimum (7p profit on this!), not worth dwelling on it when at best you could have made a few quid profit by waiting a bit longer.
+0I think losses of up to £3 per race are ok in the long run. Remember it only takes one second or third place to come in for you to be back in decent profit. There are large elements of luck in these offers but they are fun and I enjoy doing the research.
+0@Chris – I thought you might go for that one :)
@Ice – looking at the all weather results of late, you would have made a decent return simply laying favourite lately
@beh – have to agree that in the past I might have risked placing a lay one or two clicks lower than current price, hoping it got taken – all to save myself an extra 50p in qualifying loss, but those days are gone. When I look at the total profit column of my records I have now decided that that extra 50p loss is worth the time (and stress) saved ;)+0Get regular offer updates, tip and tricks, big offer alerts and more straight to your inbox.
Good comment tony and thanks for replying. You’re right about profit – MB has definitely been more profitable. The winning feeling from a gamble is a lot better though, it’s tough to explain but I’m sure a few know where I’m coming from. Still, I’m thankful for it being in my life. I think I’m just having a rough spell with it. January has felt like a whole lot of effort for not that much gain, and today’s offer has topped it all off. I’ve done a few of them risk-free slot offers aswell this month and won nothing. Which is depressing when you see the posts of 150+ quid resulting from them!
I will take your suggestion on board though – if I don’t feel like doing an offer just don’t do it. And if an offer interests me, don’t spend more than 5 mins looking for a match.
+0try putting on the night before they usually list these races about 16:00 GMT.so if you keep an eye you can usually get great odds as there’s loads of trading going on.
3.10 – Whispering Warrior looks good
+0Never do well with these but it should profit eventually in theory, I just think of it as an easy back lay on enhanced odds last night to make a quick £6 at paddy gave me three free shots at these assuming up to £2 losses per race.
Fav is 3/3.1 at present btw fluctuating quite a bit though
+0May have to go with Aleator as lay odds on Freud are rubbish even as race approaches. Will be real annoyed if the latter comes second.
+0Went with the fav 3.0/3.0. Odds with other horses are very poor.
+0Fav here to for 3.0/3.0 for minimal loss – ONE TIME PLEASE!! :D
+0gone with the fav.
looked at my stats for Jan, got 7 up out of 31
3 went on to win at zero loss,
4 were up from the first 9 attempts so I think I’ll tighten up on which races to go for, I did spend a Saturday with 2 attempts at every channel 4 race and was lucky to sneak one in the last race to break even for the day+0
