Systematically Overlaying

  • Hello,

I’m new to the forum and to the world of matched betting! In fact, I started last week end, I’ve done a few offers and am currently £170 up! I have a few free bets to complete, and then I will pass to the risk-free bets.

My question concerns overlaying. Usually, to extract the free bet value, we bet on something at high odds. Because it’s a high odds event, it’s unlikely it will occur, so more often than not we will win at the exchange and lose at the bookie (though you know better than me this is not always the case).

I was wondering if anybody worked out the maths to understand whether it is convenient to overlay systematically, so that we’ll always profit, but if the exchange wins, we will profit more. This way, in the long run, we should be able to get more value out of the free bets, is that right?

For example, if our free bet odds are > X, then overlaying by Y% is recommended…has anybody tried this out?

Comments and suggestions from experts are very welcome, since I am a total newbie at this!

    Cheers!

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

I prefer to underlay if anything. Less commission and in the long run you will likely find the exchange is a loser and your money builds up in there bookies. You can’t decide where the money goes by picking long shots or by underlaying or overlaying.

If you find it inconvenient when you win at the bookie then perhaps underlay a bit so that extra profit makes up for the inconvenience …
