The Visa network is down :(

  • I first noticed this on Tuesday morning. I use a Ffrees Visa Card for all my matched betting. I had withdrawals due to hit my Ffrees account yesterday morning from Betfair, Sky and Coral. They always arrive the next day without fail. None of them arrived. At first I didn’t think too much of it. Then I noticed problems at my main bank, Lloyds. I’d taken something back to M&S for a refund back to my Lloyds debit card. Refunds from a store always hit the account the next day. Nothing arrived. Also, I’d made some purchase at Waitrose on my Lloyds debit card on Monday afternoon. Waitrose purchases are always debited from Lloyds the following working day. Nothing was debited.

This really leaves me in the lurch as I have a total of £900 in withdrawals due, no idea when it will arrive, and nobody’s even acknowledged that there is some kind of problem with Visa processing.

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Hi Adder, you are correct the whole Visa settlement system is down and they are unable to collect any files from their members, hence why you have not seen these transactions cleared. I work in the industry so know the issue, they are due to start estimating settlement to members so at least banks can begin to pay their customers such as bookmakers, but depending on the bank will depend on if you see these transactions cleared. I expect it will be a few more days yet, before things get sorted as Visa have still to identify the issue!

Thanks so much for your reply Charlie. But this is not in the papers or anything!! Why aren’t they letting people know?

I’ve put my matched betting on hold now indefinitely until this issue is sorted out. Until that £900 I’m waiting on arrives I cannot even pay my rent, which is due on Monday.

Do you think this issue WILL eventually get sorted?

Is it affecting Mastercard as well?

It’s just Visa now MC transactions should not be affected. As mentioned they will send settlement today, but just to the banks. Technically your transactions have not cleared so banks of the bookmakers will not confirm those transactions so it could be a couple more days before you see them cleared.

Will let you know if I hear more

Thanks. I’ve spoken to one of the bookmakers and to my bank and they all claim they know nothing at all about this problem with visa.

It’s strange that nobody else seems to be noticing that their withdrawals aren’t coming through as normal!

I made a withdrawal on Sunday night (it’s now Thursday) from a well known bookmaker. I was expecting it to reach my bank around 1500 on Tuesday as normal (2nd post if you like?) – I called them & they said it had been sent but “Our t&c’s do say it can take up to 5 working days” yada yada… No mention of any Visa problem. Thankfully my exchange dosh was with Ladbrokes, so, I could withdraw in shop!

(thanks to Charlie for the info)

One of my withdrawals has now finally arrived. Coral pretended to have no knowledge of any delays. SkyBet have got a banner up on their site about it.

I now know that files from 28 and 29 March have been processed, so transactions will start to appear. I’d expect all your transactions will have been cleared by end of tomorrow.

I’m in the same boat, contacted my building society this morning and they were already aware of the issue with the visa network.

I did a mass withdrawal at all bookmakers and smarkets on Monday afternoon, was expecting to have had everything in my account by yesterday but nothing came. I’m glad its pay day tomorrow as the money I’m waiting to come in exceeds 4k so I would have had to dip in to savings tomorrow if not.

The payments I was expecting to arrive on tuesday finally hit my account later on Thursday afternoon!

Thank goodness this has been a quiet betting midweek!!

It seems the same thing may be happening again. Withdrawals made on Sunday and approved and sent through on Sunday evening still not hit my account. This is with Ladbrokes and every single time I’ve withdrawn from them previous, the cash is there the next working day around 3pm

I’m really running out of patience with this. These funds not arriving really scuppers me for the Grand National offers due to a limited float.
