When to expect gubbings?

  • My background is I first did matched betting 10+ years ago, smashed all the welcome offers left it alone, most of my accounts were closed due to inactivity and I didnt really return to any sort of betting until 2019ish.

At which point I actually managed to convince nearly every bookmaker to give me a new welcome offer and free bets. I went on live chat asking if I could reactivate my dormant account(s) or would I have to create a new one. Some accounts were handed back to me same username etc, and some I had to create a brand new one but I asked for the welcome offer for each of them and I got nearly all of them again.

I was surprised about this at the time but I wasn’t complaining.

So late 2019 I smashed through all the welcome offers again. I did the occasional reload offer and free bet clubs etc but nothing too regularly. I then stopped all betting activity Christmas 2019ish and have only recently started to take up MB again. Still have a few welcome offers to do, but mostly I’m on reload offers now,

The thing is I’ve never been gubbed (except for on ThePools which happened after I did the welcome offer). I know gubbings are inevitable but when should I expect them?

  • New to matched betting?

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

I have started around 2 month ago, done most of the welcome offers and I have been gubbed already in several of them.

Most of them come from the ones I only used to do the occasional offer (BoyleSport, LiveScoreBet, Novibet etc…)

I also have been gubbed in two I used quite frequently for weekly offers (BetFred and MansionBet). This two are annoying cause they were quite profitable.

Since, I’ve been taking care with the occasional mug and just betting on high profile markets in my main ones (PP, SkyBet, BetWay and Unibet)

The rest of the small ones will get gubbed sooner or later I guess.

These all came about a month or so after I started.

I would say that different companies seem to have difficult policies. Your betting behaviour with one bookie may get you gubbed but a similar behaviour with another may not. I have not been gubbed by Betfred (yet) but my betting behaviour with them must looked like match betting. I don’t do every free bet offer they have but I also don’t do any mug bets. Similar patterns had me gubbed at Sky and Paddy within a few months (same owner by the way). Paddy have stopped me betting on the enhanced odds offers but Sky haven’t and so even being gubbed means different things. Livescorebet shut me down within days but they are also owned by same company as Virginbet and so there is some information sharing going on as well. That is part of the reason I don’t use Betfair much as they are owned by Flutter who also own Paddy, Sky and Sportsbet. I think there may be some randomness in it to. Placing mug bets will probably help but it is time consuming when you have lots of accounts on the go and your small loses can add up. One idea is to place one mug bet for every offer bet you place but that is just a guess on my part.
