Fine folk. High 5 promotion has ended today and while a few suggested it will be replaced by beaten by a neck – they are wrong! I’m not entirely sure if people will like this one but here’s the replacement called 2 CLEAR starting from tomorrow at Windsor – Back a horse to win and receive 15% of your winnings as a free bet if he wins BY 2 LENGTHS. The good thing – it’s only 2 lengths now which is great. The bad thing – percentage cut to 15% and I don’t think there’s a refund for the 2nd place! Your thoughts?

Giving the Windsor card a look for tomorrow, I can see that all of the races have 10+ runners. We only need 2L but makes it harder to pick a winner this way. Wish they had a 2nd place refund as well.

I’ll have a good go at this offer tomorrow, probably start by just backing favourites.

So my thoughts on the offer…some in comparison to high 5:
+ the 2 length margin should hopefully mean less obvious easing down of horses sucperring bets
+ I think it will come in quite often especially with big favourites. Just had a quick check of the same Windsor meeting and 5 out of 8 races were 2 or more. Will do more checks later
+ generally flat meetings have 1 or 2 more races each day– no second place cover
– not clear how many meetings but assuming one per day+0
– 15% not 25 means bigger steaks for maximum profit
Overall tho got to say good on Billy hills for maintaining a regular promotion like this

Looking at the terms of this offer, despite the fact it doesnt cover 2nd place and its 15% as opposed to 25% surely you are going to hit alot more on this. Which means no more frustrating bad patches. You think of all those races that ended between 2-4.5 lengths on the high 5 offer. The difference of course is stake will need to be higher in order to get the full £100fb, but with more consistant hits, those qualifying losses should get covered in short term.
An evens horse with a 600 stake is going to return a 90fb with a like for like match would cost £12 qualifying loss on smarkets which equates to 7.5x investment. . Your getting 40% less extra profit you were getting (15% compared to 25%) 5 length + winner is 3rd of the races so 0.333333 x 1.4 means hitting more than 2+length winner would need to happen 47% of the time or more.
Then you have to take into account the 25fb you used to get for 2nd place which is no longer the case which I work out that you would need 2+lengths to hit around 58% of the time in order for this new offer to be on par with the old one as the 2nd place element of the old offer was worth 25% of the winning element of the old offer.
I believe whatever difference, its marginal. It all depends on what the official figure is for 2+length winners. anyone know?

Flat races tend to be a lot closer and with Favs normally at bigger prices.
There won’t be days with 4 or 5 odds on shots that you could rely on getting a couple of winners…

bbobb. True and that is a big factor. Far less fallers though and less handicaps so there are elements the other way too. Put it to the test and see how things turn out.
+0Hopefully be able to combine this with BBL offers, fingers crossed Coral come back with BBL regularly. On first glance this won’t be as profitable as Hi 5 but should still bring in constant freebies, just probably not as high.
I think Hi5 got slated right at the start and look at what that turned into, like printing money!
