William Hill MBS Races – 24th Feb

  • So William Hill have the 2.20 Lingfield and 3.00 Doncaster as their money back as a free bet if second specials today.

Staying clear of the 3.00 but my favourite lucky horse Little Indian goes in the 2.20 in what is a decent shot at a free bet. He’s already won me a £25 free bet at Sky and a £25 free bet at WH so going for three in a row today. I do love him.

Going to put £5 on him as a mug bet at Ladbrokes too incase he actually wins.

My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

    It’s the 3.30 Doncaster not the 3.00

Its mobile only, go in on the app to Horse Racing and you’ll see the banner above the meetings (Doncaster and Lingfield)

Why are you staying away from the 3.30 Doncaster?

Does anyone ever do analysis of their expected value with the MB2 offers?

For example, take the 2.20 at Lingfield. Using exchange odds, the favourite (Believe It) is around 2.3 to win and 1.6 to finish in the top two. This implies that the probability Believe It finishes in second is roughly 19.8%. From here we know that, if we extract 80% of the free bet, our expected value of the offer is 0.198*0.80*25 – Qualifying Loss. In other words, the offer is profitable if and only if our qualifying loss is less than £3.96. If you take the second favourite (Little Indian), the odds are around 5.3 to win and 2.4 to finish in the top two. This implies that the probability Little Indian finishes second is roughly 22.8%. This would be profitable if our qualifying loss is less than £4.56.

It almost feels like the MB2 offers aren’t worthwhile during the week… What’s our expected upside? If we manage to get the second favourite in the 2.20 with zero qualifying loss (very difficult) our expected gain is £4.56. Needless to say, the second race at 3.30 is much worse.

It doesnt meet my criteria as a good chance of bagging a free bet. No clear favourite, large, strong field.

I generally would advise against these unless you are behind the favourite and and about 10% (so £2.50) qualifying loss.

I’m very particular about calculating expected value and probability on the Money back 2nd to SP offers – but generally on MBS you won’t go far wrong if you keep your losses to a couple of pound and keep your horses to 3/1 and shorter.

Well I’m confident Little Indian will come second and if he does I’ll have a £25 free bet minus say £3 qualifying loss. Out of that free bet I’ll extract about £21 cash so end up hopefully with an £18 profit. If not then I just deduct £3 from last nights healthy profits, no big deal.

Thats all that matters to me, easy to overanalyse these offers but they are a bit of fun and you either do them or you dont.

I wouldn’t be surprised if our Little Indian finishes 1st instead ;)

Pyroclastic for me as the odds were close

Looks like Little Indian odds just drifted to 5 on WH so I missed it :-(

    Good luck
