William Hill New Horse Racing Offer

  • Hi all. I’m fairly new to matched betting so still getting to grips how to play certain offers. My first thought was this looks good but not sure how to play it. Any advice??

    HIGH 5
    Our New Horse Racing Offer

One in three National Hunt (jumps) races were won by five or more lengths last season.

With that in mind, we give you our new racing offer – High 5. Place a bet on selected jumps meetings, and if a horse wins by 5 or more lengths…

» Back the winner and you’ll get a 25% bonus.
» Finish second and get money back as a free bet.

There’s a High 5 meeting every single day:
    ‣ Friday and Saturday – All jumps meetings.
    ‣ Sunday to Thursday – One selected meeting.
    ‣ All live Channel 4 races

It all starts this Friday, just in time for the top class racing at Cheltenham’s three day Open Meeting.

So if your horse romps home, or finishes behind a clear winner, we’ve got this jumps season covered.

I had 6 winners at Hills yesterday, plus long-odds, free bet winners at Coral and Betfred. Would be a shame to lose three accounts in quick succession, so might have to lay off the horses for a few days.

This is on at Ffos Las today and I’ve been told that Monday Club should go well in the 12.45 race which may offer the best chance of hitting anything today.

THIS IS NOT A TIP, just putting it out there and the back and lay isn’t even that good at the mo but if it tightens up I’m going in with £50.

Seems to be an awful lot of favourites getting beat by a suspicious looking 4.5 lengths at the High 5 meetings.

I agree past caring notice it’s so many more than 4 or 5 lengths isn’t it. Guess with all the money bookies put into the game they have sway

I’ve watched a few of these races when I’ve got bets on. I’ve noticed that if a jockey is well clear they will often ease up at the end cutting a lead from 5+ lengths to under 5. I dont think there’s anything dodgy going on. I think that because he/she knows the race is won there’s no point in flogging the poor old horse any more

Would love to see William Hill back up the claim that 1 in 3 jump races are won by 5 lengths or more. Perhaps its at particular times of year or in good weather? I’ve done loads of these over Christmas including all 14 races at Leopardstown where no winners won by 3 let alone 5 lengths. I managed 1 free bet at Chepstow on Boxing Day in about 30+ attempts. Good example today, look at the two High 5 meetings, Cheltenham and Musselburgh. No races out of the 13 were won by 5 lengths or more.

I may just start going small stakes and not laying, considering how many winners I keep picking (my account has £2400 in it from a £200 deposit) it should be profitable.

    Sod’s law Chris.
    Lay and you win.
    Don’t lay and you lose.

I gave up on High 5 when jockeys began easing up when well ahead.

Think majority of MBers could make more if they didn’t lay – in theory.

Only interested in how many winners have won by 5 lengths or more over jumps since this offer started and before it too to back up William Hill’s claim.

It’s been rubbish today but managed two freebies yesterday. Got two freebies at Betbright and one at Paddy today so not a bad start to the year along with the Skybet offer. Struggled to get rid of the betbright freebies though, couldn’t get them on higher than 5.5 but found a couple of arbs.

The 1 in 3 stat was based on all races, the offer is only open to races with 6 or more horses. You also have meets like Cheltenham which is usually more competitive.

Seem to be a lot of conspiracies mooted on here as to this offer. As to ‘jockeys started easing off’ this isn’t something new. Some will screw up the high 5 offer, some will help it if a clear 2nd but not catching the winner

Just to clarify, I am not suggesting a conspiracy at all and of course if a horse is winning by 10 lengths it will ease off and could end up winning by less than 5 lengths, I just wish I could see the stats but like you say its probably based on all races.

albatross – I managed a good one on this offer at Chepstow last week, got a £80 free bet but having done this offer a lot over Christmas and checked winning distances theres no way its even close to 1 in 3 races, none today and there were three days in a row last week when there werent any either.

Chris like betman says the TV races are always more competitive so less likely. I was hoping the offer would be on all racing today as per Friday sat given they had extended it for boxing day. It wasnt and I’ve just totalled up the non tv races with 6 or more runners yday…14 from 28 were 5 or more lengths. Typical!

I dont know a lot about horses, but I did compile a database of horse results by scraping the data for all horse race results from “at the races” website.

When I interrogate the database I can see that 20% of all UK and Ireland races the horse in 2nd was 5 lengths behind.

When I filter where the race description like “CHASE” and runners <6 then 51% of the horses that were second lost by 5l +

When I filter by Chase again but this time 6+ runners then 41% of the 2nd placed horses were beaten by 5l +.

My data is out of date, I haven’t updated it since about Oct 2016. But it seems plausible that William Hills claim is right, not sure what races they are including or filters or for what dates, so hard to verify.

It doesn’t really mean that you will get the refund once in every three races, you have to pick the second place (or the winner to get the boost) first. So in a race with 6+ horses I find only 4% of them finished 2nd and 5l + behind.

I have found these reasonably lucrative if you pick the right races. Especially where there is a single “banker” at very low odds , then bet to win £100. In many cases you can get an arb if you leave it till the last minute or so. I have also started looking at leaving the lay until after the race has started when there is a banker and then lay at 20% below the bet price. It seems that “bankers” lay prices drop very quickly just after the race has started. I am doing this with small bets at the moment cos I am a chicken , but may raise the stakes if it starts to get me good returns.
Also like others , I seem to be amassing a lot of winners and have considered just betting without laying – but again I am a bit chicken
