I’m really surprised by the number of people still tackling these offers during the week. Your expected gain, for an average qualifying loss and average probability of achieving a second place, is somewhere around £2-3. On top of this, you might get a half decent match on the C4/1 offer, and gain £5 expected value. Anyway, my point is you can’t really achieve more than £15 as an expected return during the week – especially now that the major bookies are only giving second to SP (which is terrible value).
I’m not trying to upset anyone here, but you’re earning less than minimum wage. On top of this, you aren’t accumulating much (if any) experience, and you are contributing nothing to the economy/world (productivity is literally zero and even negative if you factor in the electricity required etc.). I just think it’s worth raising this… Just in case people aren’t really factoring in what they should expect to gain from attempting the offers.

How much you made is irrelevant… How much were you expected to gain? If you were expected to gain £185, then fair enough. Also, is this your total from matched betting? If so, not relevant. I’m talking about offers on the horses during the week.
+0Given all the time it takes, all of two minutes a few minutes before the off, I can do these in the office much more readily than I can at the weekend, out with kids swimming for example. So yeah I appreciate they’re fairly poor value but it fills some down time instead of telly chat or random Web browsing over the course of the day.

Nate, you’re missing the point… It really does not matter at all how many free bets you achieved on a given day! All that matters was your expected return.

For me Mark, it’s firstly a hobby. I know I’m not making a whole bunch but it makes me happy which is a worthy contribution to the world.
Also its a bit of desperation. I had pocketed 1000s each month in Nov, Dec, Feb, Mar and now I’ve lost most of the accounts so in order to maintain that level I need to desperately pick up any crumbs I can even if its a money back if 2nd by less than a length offer on a Wednesday afternoon.
Thirdly its addictive. The offers are designed to suck you in and get you hooked. And they worked. I’m hooked on this game now. One man versus the bookie’s ….

well i’ve made £60 since the start of the month usually up near £250 doesn’t help been gubbed by laddies and hills this week even gave the skybet racing offer a miss today as it was shit.

Interesting points – thanks for the honesty. I must admit I didn’t expect anyone to reply without being overly defensive. Yeah, I think enjoyment should be factored in, but I do worry that people will get hooked easily. I have a few friends who are in the same boat as you…
