Ironically the winner was the only one of the big outsiders i laid off the win part. Oh well luckily the place saved most of my other stakes.

in hindsight, it is a damn good job the non runner gave such a high reduction factor, the losses on 3rd place could have been truly disastrous otherwise…although why a 2nd fav would be withdrawn so late in such a big race is pretty dodgy imo

Backed Here Comes at roughly 71 for £45ew. Layed at 32 (45/0.98) after non runners. 30p rule 4 reduces 71 to 50. So a underlaid arb for £45 50/32 plus the 1/4 odds? Then take away my losses on the ew part of all other horses which was roughly 350?

One of you kind folk should post a thread about exactly what to do in this situation to limit losses…I let it ride, kind of coin flipping because if spear had been 1st or 2nd I would have been well up…

…is this really the best strategy though?

Best strategy Johnbo is to probably cash out your bets on the bookie side, not that I did. Then the bookies that won’t let you cash out lay on the 2 place market or let them run.
