William Hill New Horse Racing Offer

  • Hi all. I’m fairly new to matched betting so still getting to grips how to play certain offers. My first thought was this looks good but not sure how to play it. Any advice??

    HIGH 5
    Our New Horse Racing Offer

One in three National Hunt (jumps) races were won by five or more lengths last season.

With that in mind, we give you our new racing offer – High 5. Place a bet on selected jumps meetings, and if a horse wins by 5 or more lengths…

» Back the winner and you’ll get a 25% bonus.
» Finish second and get money back as a free bet.

There’s a High 5 meeting every single day:
    ‣ Friday and Saturday – All jumps meetings.
    ‣ Sunday to Thursday – One selected meeting.
    ‣ All live Channel 4 races

It all starts this Friday, just in time for the top class racing at Cheltenham’s three day Open Meeting.

So if your horse romps home, or finishes behind a clear winner, we’ve got this jumps season covered.

Big dog has made thousands yes. I like how the assumption is that the offer isnt as good as it was pre cheltenham, as though everyone is in on making the winning distances smaller now for william hill (rather than simply pulling the promotion!)

Orlando you’re one of those who are satisfied with hypocrisy, I’ve had many like you can’t be bothered to argue again. Enjoy wasting your days then have these pricks ruin all by not even giving you an opportunity to place a bet. Proud BetFair customer from today, hope ShitMarkets announce bankruptcy soon

I told you yesterday, BF odds will be exactly the same as Smarkets, you will get the same result but pay 3% more commission!

Keep a page open for each and track them, if you don’t believe me.

Betfair and Smarkets have around about the same odds near the off… the problem with Smarkets is that it quite often goes a bit flakey.

    Mikey,

Smarkets and Betfair are betting exchanges, not bookmakers. The odds on offer are determined by the users of the site, not Smarkets/Betfair themselves. To be angry at one company or the other for not offering the odds you want belies a misunderstanding of how a betting exchange operates.

As a thought experiment: what do you think would happen if Smarkets and Betfair offered wildly different odds on the same race?

To use your example from earlier, when the odds on your horse at Smarkets were 2.02/2.04, what would you do if Betfair was at 1.85/1.86?

The answer, of course, would be to arbitrage bet between the exchanges, ie. back as much as you can on Smarkets at 2.02 and then lay off on Betfair at 1.86.

What happens when a horse is backed? The odds shorten.
What happens when a horse is layed? The odds lengthen.

So, as a result of people exploiting the odds difference, the odds on Smarkets shorten to meet Betfair’s lengthening odds and the arbitrage opportunity disappears.

Expecting the two exchanges to have wildly divergent odds is unreasonable. Simple market forces ensure that the odds can not differ by much, and then not for very long before users (or more likely bots) hammer them back into line again.

Reading all comments about the 1st race I assumed I’d picked the wrong horse of the 3 as everyone saying the Hussar hacked up…then see winning dissdance as 2 1/4 lengths. Looks like another eased up

Damn, how do you do it then Orlando? Online gambling is forbidden by law over there, using a VPN?

    Just a simple VPN.

Just a suggestion, Lower your stakes (or bypass them altogether) on the close match races, sure your FB will be smaller but so will your losses. Save the big stakes for strong favourites-no point giving £5 away on a race that is unlikely to result in a qualyfying distance.

Also, on the last race the lay dipped as low as 2.46, by placing my bet and delaying my lay I got a small Arb. Remember, if the price goes up at the exchange it’s likely hills price will go up as well, you will get paid at the higher price. Maybe don’t try this “live” straight away, but watch the 2 markets and you will get a feel for it.

Mickey, as you said yourself earlier, today’s races don’t looke great. See it as a bonus if one comes in and not a huge let down if they all don’t!
