New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Yeah I know. Just trying to roughly gauge how prolific match betting is as it often comes up as a discussion.
Just another clue.
+0Yeah but we have absolute no clue if all 40,000 were matched betters….or none where matched betting and 1.5% of people just didn’t bet £25 this week? or what combination of both? i.e 10,000 matched betters banned and 30,000 punters didn’t bet £25 doesn’t help that much!
+0Ryan if you think a drop from £3.2m to £3.0m is only a 1.5% drop I dont see your accountancy career lasting long !!
+0Patrick, I didn’t read exactly what he put I mistakenly read it was down 40,000 from 3,000,000. So apologies there, everyone makes mistaken even the great Patrick.
+0Unless you know the monthly figures over a lot longer period then its hard to gauge anything. Their may be £200k fluctuations fairly regularly.
+0Didnt read exsctly but you were very quick to post your reply.
As an accountant you need to pay attention to detail and also double check your calcs for reasonableness,Whats even more worrying is that posters have replied to you without noticing that what you put was way out.
+0Oh here we go again Patrick, come off it you know nothing about me. You can’t compare an Accountant in practice doing work, to someone lazing around on a Sunday who isn’t getting paid to check figures or calculations. I simply had a glance at the figures FOG put and misread them, mistakes happen get over it.
Why the life lesson? You seem fairly intelligent, can’t possibly compare someones focus in work to a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Patrick maybe we noticed but weren’t a grumpy old sod that only focuses on other ppl’s mistakes and general negativity.
+0In training you should always go hard , just like the game itself.
Applies to the most successful people in life aswell.+0Ha this guy.
+0I guess you quickly looked at it ,worked out your 1.5% ,and wanted to believe that as it supported your argument that matchbetters are insignificant.
In fact the decrease is in fact nearer 6% which is very significant.
On football and horse racing the bookies round up is approx 8% so if matchbetters represent 6% their markup is almost completely eaten away. The matchbetting % is far higher than 6% because in their gubbing campaign they only touchec the tip of the iceberg.
+06% is a small percentage of the customer base to be honest.
Also can’t read too much into the figures. You would need to have tracked them for a number of months to see what is normal fluctuations, and obviously some months are bigger months for bookies so you might expect a natural rise and fall in the bets.
Its marketing material, not a financial report, it’s not even specific about the time period that the figures relate. Also with some months having 4 mondays and some having 5 mondays it could be like comparing apples and oranges.
Just trying to add an observation. I just thought it might be mildly interesting. It’s hard to argue though that 6% decrease is beyond normal fluctuations. It’s also hard to argue that the 6% is not in any way due to a number of matched bettors getting caught in the net this time.
+0Agree with you Fog but just had to point out Ryan’s error as its very misleading.
+0I’m getting sick of the “kings of the £5 free bet” sky, backing and laying the fiver for a piddly 3 quid or whatever or punting it and mostly losing on high odds, granted their chelts offer was great, but on football I wish they would offer something a bit more substantial, like I dunno a £10 free bet, everything football related is a £5 free bet with these, you see Jeff Stellings cheesy smile on the sky bet site underneath it says “bet 10 get £5 free bet on Manchester United/Villa”,yeah woopy do, big fn deal!
Ive been in-play trading(just started) anyway today so missed the offer, big loss that was.
+0Like a lot of matched betters Mr P you are getting greedy.
In value terms bet. £10 get £5 FB is a great offer.+0
