My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Having said that, just done a bit of research and found this article which indicates variance amongst bookies:

    http://www.learnbetwin.com/reserves-irish-horse-racing-effect-punters-bookmakers-deal/

So bookies such as Bet365, Betvictor (and I also know Sky dont) dont apply Rule 4 to non-runner reserves. The usual crooks such as Ladbrokes and Coral do however.

Theres also some variance in the how Rule 4 is applied to non runners who are replaced by reserves. Some bookies dont bother, others do if the reserve horses places. Its pretty odd how there is such flexibility in this. I looked on Tattersalls for the official rules and there isnt really any mention in there of it.

They are all crooks Chris. The variance is due to the fact the betting is the most unregulated business around.

Never saw odds on that one come close bbobb, I had to go for Iniesta instead even though I preferred Beekeeper

Yes Chris. I’ve just been on the same page as you there for half an hour trying to figure out what those crooks are up to and if there is any case where reserves can help us. I don’t think it makes sense to bet on races with reserves. They rip you off no matter what way.

For example, ” let’s say a 8/1 shot is withdrawn, and replaced by a horse with a price of 4/1. There would be a rule 4 of 10p in the pound if you backed any other horse in the race, but the race has now become harder to win for your selection, yet if the 8/1 shot had remained in, there would have been no rule 4 on the 4/1 shot. So you get a 4/1 shot substituted for an 8/1 shot, and get a 10p rule 4 on top of it. Hardly seems fair at all.”

As for what Coral and Ladbrokes are doing is very misleading – pricing up a horse at 10/1 which they will never pay out at 10/1.

So the 13.10. Toast of New York has been 2nd in the Breeders Cup and is running in a C Class race at Lingfield.

Available at 2.6….should win or a canter or will be pulled up after a furlong.

Odds are shocking in the next race at Hills. Not that its easy to find a winner there anyway but still. They are a point down on everyone else.

Chris, I was going to use my boost to go for Beekeeper. Had a few small arb chances but was too greedy and missed it completely.

Watching that last race and backed Badilou at 10-1 in running…
20 seconds later it was at 1.7….
    5 seconds later he fell…

Did Red Square win by 5 lengths? Be annoyed if he did as tried to get on him about 5 times.

Uggggh 10 lengths. Soooooooooooo annoying, that would have been a big one. Hills were chopping the price so quickly.

So Toast of New York wins reasonably well after drifting to 3.3…. I had a small punt on it.

He was rated about 20lbs ahead of the rest on form.

Using my boost on the next I think. Short price fav so should get a decent match.

This will be the one that doesnt hit bonus….

Field is too competitive, Midnight Jazz is the one I want but odds so far off. If I cant get anything here, I’ll just leave it for the day.

Taken Midnight Jazz at 8.50 with a £30 stake. Bit of a gamble on the lay coming down a bit more.
