Right an idea I got from oddsmonkey, we post the daily bad EW races on here with no chat or discussion, plenty of topics for that. Think this thread will help us all in case you don’t think it will just skip this please ?

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Anyone have an idea why this is not settled at betfair yet?
+0MBP – cheers for the tip on Drums of war..
I’d laid the 2 place market prior to the withdrawal, the rule 4 deduction on the place market at the exchange (in my experience) always works out well in those situations..
+0Seems to be some confusion as to whether the fav was a runner or not…. apparently jockey had dismounted before they started.
+0That might be quite good, fingers crossed it’s a non-runner..
+0All settled and thankfully not a non runner. Was arbing the fav in the end after the withdrawal that took the field down to 7. Was worried that something would go against me but everything ok.
+0Having just watched a replay of the start of that race I have to say I wuld be raging if I had backed the fav and lost my money…. was about 50 behind the rest at the start with someone feckign about it with a whip, no way was it going anywhere.

Beesty – out of interest, what do you think might have gone against you? I would have thought both bets would have been refunded.
+0Was just getting a little more concerned with the time it was taken for the exchange to settle. Had already seen all my bets classed as losers so was worried about it being voided. I guess betfair May have been looking to see whether in play bets would count but would presume it would do so and people may have had a good win laying the fav within a few seconds of the start.
Will be interesting if I get any refunds from it. Got a pp one but it’s useless with the restrictions.
+0I just had a £100 free bet from coral, funny thing is my bet was on sonic
+0Was this the 1.40? What actually happened?
+0Ahh just read up. Luckier than i thought then. NR and 70p rule 4 would have been gutting after celebrating the winner.
+0Fair enough Beesty, I hadn’t considered how many 0’s you had on the end of your bets!
+0I’m semi convinced with laying the two place market in 8/9 horse races (especially when arbing the favourites in ew races)….
There’s no worrying about a last minute withdrawal bring the places at the bookie down to 2.
If there are non-runners, the rule 4 adjustment is (almost certainly) going to benefit me.
If there aren’t any non-runners, then it’s effectively an extra place race.
+0Makes sense crispy, only risk is if reduced liquidity on that market reduces value
I rationalized before when I got dinged twice with 7 runners letting it run was right thing. I made just over 80 today, would lost the same if 3rd and made a little more if won- 4th or below break even. To back it all out just before the offer would been a level £10 loss across all results so whilst a bigger risk definite value in letting it run
Another approach which may apply to a few of us – I think a few of us are restricted beyond big exposure, know the value in this and have big enough banked funds to take some variance (I know some of us do it on accas) – not laying the place at all would be better long term value and remove the non runner risk. Or even lay 50% and less exposure if you have to let it ride
+0Good point Betman, liquidity is a problem, there’s not so much love for the two place market….
I’m sure it’s swings and roundabouts in terms of value but, it’s nice to not have to worry about non runners. Plus if you’re waiting to lay three places until the last minute anyway, you can leave an unmatched lay in the two place market and hope someone goes for it. If they don’t, you’re no worse off than you would have been anyway..
I dabble in the no lay approach myself. I’m convert, although it does slightly desensitize me to losing money. I lost about £200 in an evening on small (value) punts on my B365 account, I still slept like a baby… When I started, I’d be devastated if I lost a tenner…
