New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Use Ultimatcher 4, it keeps track of EVERYTHING and is very little work.
+0You’re one up on me crispy. I only have deposits/withdrawals. My balances are sometimes a surprise to me!
Don’t really get the commission confusion in the 2 posts though. If I’ve done several horses eway on a race, or I’m doing lots bets on a bigger day I’ll quickly scribble the numbers down and doesn’t take much to fathom the exact outcome after commission
+0I don’t keep track of anything…. every couple of days I estimate how much I have across accounts.
As long as you are doing +EV bets it should be fine.
+0Unusually small amounts being matched at Betfair today at Beverley… 4 minutes to go in the 14:20 and only £70k matched.
+0Didn’t realise it was combined. I must be what another few k up?!
+0I’m surprised people don’t take more detailed records of bets. Do you not want to know exact profits, what offers / bets are more profitable etc.?
+0Get regular offer updates, tip and tricks, big offer alerts and more straight to your inbox.
Wouldn’t you have noticed your exchange balance didn’t tally up with your prof/loss records?
+0To be honest there is so much profit its hard to keep track! I’ve basically just tried to account for this years extra commission by assuming at least 1 race per day of £100 so £2 has been overpaid, so added £500 into this months profit to cover this. BOOM September is looking beter already
+0Been a while since such a blatant flaw in matchedems numbers came out!
Enigma – unless you are taking guaranteed profit only or doing stupidly high volumes i don’t see the records help that much in being sure of value. An understanding of what’s what EV wise, when you have time, what capital you have etc is more important.
For example the US tennis I did the offers and hit a few early days, records would possibly shown that as better than eway arbs or no lay accas for those few days – but I know the EV is worse so if my time allowed I’d put it further down the list for future betsI also think it’s the type of person more than restriction of record keeping – but the record keeping type on here seem to get a bit bogged down in guaranteeing things, whereas those who don’t seem more adaptable with underlays, no lays or other approaches with some short term risk
+0Matchedem – if you’ve never checked your profit and loss figures against your cash balances how do you know you haven’t made mistakes the other way and overstated your profit in the past?
I’d suggest deducting £500 from this month’s profit to be on the safe side.
+0About record taking it is definitely important. Like enigma says to highlight profitable offers or offers you are actually making a loss on.
When I hear of a new strategy or new offer then I usually keep detailed records for 100 bets or so. Then I get sloppy.
It’s still wrong but after been doing this a couple of years you have a feel for things. Some things you know are profitable from experience or from theoretic formulae. And you know your on the right direction if your monthly balances are always up. Or your withdrawals are always higher than your deposits.
I’m at the level of just updating my balance figures monthly and tracking deposits/withdrawals.
But some ppl come up with ideas here that need checking out. Like ppl who believe they can lay the draw, dobbing, just accas (no offer) even fallers insurance. I think ideas like this need detailed record keeping before you lose a mint chasing them.
+0Thanks Mr crispy I’ve hedead your advice and deducting the 500 too so I’m now back where I was for the month. Hopefully in future this info will help me tho
+0I do keep some records, but generally what’s open and resource to help with future bets are what I use.
No need to log bad each way arbs as it’s obvious they are profitable, and fluctuates when you hit or don’t hit them.
Accas I track my balance by bookie for no lay ones, and that will become increasingly useful as offers get tougher to keep a cap on varianceTo me it’s a hobby and using tools to make more money, not looking back ticking to the penny what I made where… But I know people vary
+0First two races at Ballinrobe today are worth watching (IMO)..
The 14.45 has 16 runners.
+0Ha, I keep details led records of every offer. I can tell you that Corals HT/FT double winnings is absolute gash (for me anyways) doesn’t stop me bloody trying though! Goes without saying that high 5 is (was!) the most profitable. Paddy’s sadly missed losing at HT was a goldmine. Anything Genting do is rubbish as I usually wait so long to get a good match at 4/1 that my FB expires!
