Betfair Each Way edge
-
So I just noticed this gizmo.
On betfair when you are placing an each way bet you can adjust the terms if you want.
For example I can bet on Top Tug in Catterick 14:20 today odds 3.25. Standard place terms are 1/5 odds, 3 places.
This is almost value as you’re getting odds 3.25/1.45 for the win/place(3) on the bookie and the lays are at 3.7/1.27 on the exchange.
BUT
If I toggle the Each Way Edge widget to only pay two places then this will increase the odds to 4.33! Giving 4.33/1.67 for the win/place(2), where the lays are 3.7/1.59 (2 to place). Which is better value.
Maybe its something someone wants to look into, but at least at first glance on this example looks like you can stretch the value you get e/w arbing by using the edge.
Anyone use this feature regularly?

New to matched betting?
My Matched Betting Academy is the best place to get started. Learning the fundamentals takes 10-15 minutes and you’ll make £15 in the process.

Actually 2nd is £40+. I copied down the wrong figure.
You win 19.80 – comm in exchange and win the 47.50 in bookie -20 stake so 19.40+27.50=46.90.
+0Limited Reserve is a Pricewise selection tomorrow – should be available at 11.0 from 8.30am.
+0As is Floresco in the same race – should be available at 26.0 – worth checking perhaps?
+0I was wondering why there was so much money trading on him already. There’s thousands on either side of the back/lay and only a couple quid liquidity on every other horse.
+0It seems to me to be saying that if there are non runners so that the standard places drops to 3, then our -2 edge becomes win only at the price after each way edge. That would be a fantastic result because then we would have £20@16.0 on the win and already laid off £19.80@11.5. So still practically on a risk free shot for big payout, now this time for a win.
+0FOG_blog. Thanks, but I’m not sure what you’re trying to achieve here mate.
By making this public you’re going to get it closed down very fast. Meaning that no one (including yourself) will ever be able to benefit from it.
It will stick out like a sore thumb to traders…people betting edge multiple horses on the same race, and once they clock they will close/gub accounts and even refuse to pay out, meaning people could be down hundreds/thousands.
I get your probably just trying to be genuinely nice and that’s appreciated, but you’re helping no one by spreading this everywhere. What’s the point if it means it will just get closed and gone forever?
Secondly, I’m not sure how to tag mods, but there was a similar betfair loophole not too long ago. It quickly spread over forums, and presto, it was closed. But, even worse, was that betfair filed a huge lawsuit against the servers/forum promoting and talking about it, and got them shut down…this is a real and very serious risk.
So for the benefit of everyone can you just let people work these more advanced tactics slowly, through their own methods, so that we can all prosper.
Also, maybe you’re gubbed/restricted…what happens if you get the oppertunity for a new betfair account? But this is now gone? Just think long-term…
+0The best value here is when they are paying out 4 places each way. As then you can use the EW edge to reduce to 2 places and what was say a 20/21 match for a win becomes a 23/21 match but the back is for first or second and the lay is just for the win [therefore big profits if hit second place and risk free if not].

I don’t know what is so special about this that we are not allowed share yet we are allowed to share info on accas or ew arbing.
I won’t mention it again.
I appreciate that ppl are worried that their profits will dry up but that’s the way it will always be and always has been then you need to adapt. Betfair will restrict you anyway pretty quickly whether I share this or not and you’re profits will dry up anyway.
+0I really don’t see the problem. It’s very similar to an extra place race really and as fog says if you’re taking advantage of this and winning money from betfair your account will be flagged and restricted sooner rather than later.
+0I really do think that would be the best for all.
There’s a huge difference between being restricted after 3 bets, or a month.
If suddenly a huge influx of people start doing it, it immediately gets flagged and they will pick up on the trend and goodbye.
However, if the amount slowly increases (or as people get restricted after a short while, like a month, others find out about it through their own means) it balances out, and stays under the radar for months and months.
No point ruining a very good thing is there (I don’t have any betfairs i can use btw – so this isn’t for myself, just trying to help everyone).
Cheers.
+0Thanks Fog.. I appreciate your help and explanations (I’m sure most other users do too)… I’m not sure why MB213 is getting so antsy.
Floresco worked nicely. At 8.30 when the price went to 26, the price if you went ew and reduced the places to 2 was 46, which gives odds of 12.25 on the place. I backed £25 ew and laid £51.10 on the win at 26 on Smarkets. So I make the possible outcomes:
Floresco finishes 1st:
Win £1,406.25 at betfair SB, lose £1,276.17 at Smarkets. Profit £130.08.Floresco finishes 2nd:
Win £281.25 on the place at Betfair SB, lose £25 on the win at Betfair SB, win £50.07 at Smarkets. Profit £306.32.Floresco finishes outside the top 2:
Lose £50 at Betfair SB, win £50.07 at Smarkets. Profit £0.07.+0So, Floresco was 26.0 at BF. Taking e/w edge to 2 places gave a price of 46.0 and therefore 12.25 for the place. For a £5 e/w bet overlaid by £1.35 on the win part.
If Floresco Wins, loss at exchange = -£30.07, win on place bet = +£56.25, profit = £26.18
If Floresco 2nd, profit at exchange = +£5, win on place bet = £56.25, profit = £66.25
If Floresco loses, profit at exchange = +£5, loss on place bet = -£5, profit = £0.00+0Didn’t see your post before mine Mr Crispy!
+0Cheers for the heads up on that horse Lewi…
I owe you a thanks for one at Aintree too.. San Bernedetto (or something like that!)…
If this one comes in too then you should consider a career as a tipster..+0Fog / Crispy /Lewi – thks for all the info re this.
One quick question if I may – in the example as set out by Fog i.e back at 16 for win and 4.75 for a place and lay the win only at 10.5 – is there a formula for calculating the lay bet amount – in the example used this was £19.80 – which then evened out the loss to £0.60 if wins and £0.60 if the horse is not placed.
Or do you work out the lay stake by trial and error to arrive at the amount needed?
