The Open Offers

  • Ppl are starting to get giddy about the open. Couple of posts already.

Betstars are doing their usual bog offer and their free bets for eagles. Both worth while.

Sky are gone TEN places which I think is a great sign. I’m enjoying this little battle that the bookies have going to see who can offer the most places. With the ten places there is marginally value on pretty much all the top ten each way (except Dustin who they have quoted terrible odds for as have most).

The surprise package is Sun here with actual decent odds. 16/1 on Dustin for example where some other good bookies are as low as 12/1. With 7 places too on Sun I think it isn’t bad value for an extra place shot. Sun are best price on the top 20. If you want something on DJ you won’t get any better value that Sun here….

I noticed on the Irish Open that BetMcLean have copied betstars style bog offer so I’ll keep an eye there too.

I can see some good value forming already and as the exchange prices get tighter over the week I’m hoping some more obvious value emerges. I have an eye on sky betstars and sun for the most part. Plus some bookies still doing 1/4 odds (ladbrokes, betstars, and Stan James) which throws up the odd surprise ew arb.

Was on for some big money until this afternoon. Only worth a bit now with Spieth a dead cert for top 10 (didnt lay).

Got the extra place on Noren but with 5 players sharing 6th place it wasn’t that worthwhile. Lost a bit on Spieth, bet against him on day 2 thinking odds would lengthen with the bad weather, oh well.

Also thought I’d be on for more. Had joint 5th, and both in joint 7th in the hunt for 6th overnight but then all 3 faded. Had spieth top 10 with the place not laid but not much return really.

Nice felt1p, how much you up? Me, £142 but could have been soooooo much more if three of my players hadn’t folded today.

Bit of an anti climax for most of us I would think, to many players shared 6th and the big players with closely matched pre-tournament odds didn’t produce. About £140 for me but mostly from guaranteed FB’s and birdie refunds. Only hit one under layed place and no extra places.

Spieth made that more exciting than it needed to be, and Kuchar fair play kept the pressure on.

Spieth was my ideal scenario to win. Also had Noren, McIlroy, Koepka and Leishman in the places. All underlayed or not layed at all in the case where sky, ladbrokes and bet365 don’t let me more than a fiver on…

    Worked out nicely.

Sun are messing around with my mcilroy bet, settling it unsettling it resettling it etc. Don’t know why, they were 7 places and even if they claim only standard 5 places then he should still be a full payout as he was joint 4, with just one other.

884 from extra placing plus the previous 101 in arbs. Would’ve been much better if there was an actual 8th place and Grace came in, but tied 6th will do ;)

Oh shit, plus £42 in fb from Dabble and an extra 6th on Leishman that I forgot I went ew with at McClean, going for the miss cut offer but they restricted me to not get a large amount on.

Total newbie to Golf, got caught out by dead heat rule.

Had backed Brooke Koepka £12 E/W 6 places 1/4 odds and laid the win. Expected to get £120 profit on the place at 11 but got slashed down to 2.2 :(

Oh well, lesson learnt, roll on football season starting so I can get my fingers burnt on accas too!

There were some nice in-play bets happening when Speith and Kuchar were struggling..
Managed to get Bello at 46 (laid at an average of 38) Koepka at 67 (laid at an average of 46) and Mcllroy at 51 (laid at 40).

    Underlaid them all.

I feel like I may have missed a trick in not paying attention to the e/w market though (if that was available yesterday?)..

I don’t think there was anything going on on the ew market. Some were offering 2 places 1/4 odds at the start on spieth’s round. With two places there is no way to arb the place on the exchange because they don’t have a market. I suppose you could look at dutching the place if there was value.

Anyway I wanted to get something on Kuchar but it didn’t look value to me and shortly after they teed off as far as I remember everyone went win only.

I remember last year when only mickelson or stenson were going to finish top two they kept ew market open so that they were both about evens to win so 1.2 to place 2. In reality the true place odds should have been about 1.01! I always keep an eye on it now but need an algorithm to estimate the place true odds once they drop to 4 to place or 3 to place or something that the exchange doesn’t carry….

Same here as many others…the numerous golfers in 6th place meant worthwhile wins but nothing too exiting
